It made me wonder how he actually got those ladders up there in the first place - particularly the ones at the overhangs as they must need attaching at the top somehow before you can actually use them.

All the "it's OK for me" people are obviously just staying logged in (as am I) . This happens because your machine holds cookies which contain the log-in credentials. If you just leave the site but do not log out, these are retained so you can just get straight in next time. There has not been any problem with that.
The forum problem is for people who are NOT logged in this way, or who deliberately log-out after every session. It also affects casual surfers looking for information. To see the forums you must first be logged in - so the casual visitors and the web-crawlers which register pages for the search engines like Google cannot see them at all, hence why Google searches no longer work.
On top of that, yesterday the whole site was out of action for a couple of hours. Perhaps you just didn't try to access it during that time.
Also I seem to recall there was a time - about a couple of years ago I think - when we all had to re-confirm log in passwords. Anyone who was registered once but hasn't visited since before then, will probably not be registered properly any more.

There is absolutely no point in having a 100Ah battery in a TR. Nor do you need 800+ CCA

Probably because you get logged back in automatically by retained cookies James. The problem is seen by people who are not logged in, i.e non-members or those who clear cookies after each session.

there are three terminals, 1 Power, 2 Output, and 3 Earth for the LED.
Dimming the led can probably be done by putting a resistor between pin 3 and earth instead of a direct connection. The value depends on the LED used but I would start by trying a 2.2K Ohm 1/4 watt resistor and seeing what happens. If it is too dim, go to a lower value, or if still too bright increase it.
[You can determine the resistance needed more scientifically by using a multimeter on its DC milliamps range to measure the current in the earth wire, which will tell you the approximate value of the internal resistor. ( LED elements work on about 3V so a resistor which sets the current must drop another 9 volts for a 12v system. )
R in kilOhms = 9/mA - ie if you read 5mA then the internal resistor is 9/5=1.8k, so putting another resistor of the same value in series will halve the LED current. ]

That's only the water temperature. It takes a lot longer for the engine oil to get up to normal temperature, and even longer for the gearbox oil. Driving hard before the oil is working optimally is probably not a good thing.

If the diaphragm is sealing properly both to the body and its operating rod, the only other thing that could cause this is the non-return valves. If you can't see a screwed fixing plate then yours are the type which are held in by the edges of the recess being nipped over.
The usual refurb kits do not include the oil seal for the diaphragm rod, but I believe they can be purchased from Land Rover (?) sources.
The best advice is usually to send it to Dave Davies for refurb (07909 737531) .

Nothing bizzare about it Mick - if the forums cannot be accessed without signing in then the Google web-crawlers can't see them either and so they don't get listed.

So the links-posting downgrade has been reversed but the problem remains that you still can't see any forums without first registering and logging in. All that is displayed when you try to select forums is a repeat of the main page membership stuff and a totally useless list of 'status updates'
That is a massive deterrent for attracting new members, since a casual visitor is not able to see what technical help is available. That needs fixing ASAP.
It was seeing the forums which attracted me - and I would suspect many others - to join the register in the first place.

Ah I see - yes we had that sign-in thing before and I think it was fixed after complaints, as Stuart says now we have something else too with links so I expect whoever is fiddling with settings has flipped the wrong 'switches' again.

eg 'TR register forum TR4 axle' pulls up 8 hits on the first page.
If you are still having trouble try another search engine - I usually use DuckDuckGo rather than Google anyway.

Yes I get the impression Lucas almost made bespoke relays for each model car ! Obviously they hadn't heard of standardisation as they could have made (say) four basic types which would have cut their production costs, and the car makers could easily have made the looms to suit.

Well done Keith - I've been searching for a chart like that for ages ! The info I had gleaned so far is in bits and pieces from all over but that ties it together nicely.

The old stuff probably looks thick because - it's old. Grease is oil dissolved in a thickening 'soap' base and with time the oil evaporates leaving just a hard thick residue.
