  1. Kevin

many thanks for organising such a successful day.

Apologies to all, for my causing a delay in the mornings proceedings, the Distributor decided to spit the dummy ( more correctly post and then a weight) which tried to exit through the distributor body, failed, jammed the dissy and striped the drive off the distributor, the wood ruff key on the shaft and the Mills pin!

Thankfully the TR register has people like Eric Mobley, who not only had a distributor in the boot of his car also had the generosity to go home and pick up a new shaft, bring it back and fit it.....absolutely unbelievable......Eric you where a real star thank you. This is what the TR Register is about.

Once again a great day saved for me and my lads by a great guy

  2. Hi Tom

quite right a very sad story Mike Hawthorn died only a matter of weeks after this event. He was lent the car by Ken Richardson to run a demo Vs Ken Rawlings in Buttercup at the "Ken Wharton Memorial Driving Tests" in Nov 1958. This event was Televised by the BBC although I am yet to see a recording! The event was reported in Autosport of that week.

The Wheel Trims are "Ace Mercury" and where made for Ken Richardson by Cornercroft. They are a fake Knock on in effect with the spinner locating in a central nut.

  3. Hi Bill

just found this web reference which would concur with you that the tripmaster was launched in 64 or thereabouts.

I have a very good photo of the dash of VRW219, Soisbaults car for the Monte Carlo Rally. Unfortunately it has been sent to me by another Works car owner for my use only.........I am trying to find out who has the original to get a legitimate copy, it is possibly LAT.

The photo clearly shows a Speedpilot Mark 3 mounted on the transmission tunnel between the seats.

Other points of note are the 24 hour and time of journey RAF clocks (pair) mounted upside down in the glove box aperture.

Also a device wrapped in foam mounted just above the grab handle on the passenger side..........part of the casing in visible, looks to have a crackle type finnish, also appears to have two knobs or buttons on the top! Very mysterious and clearly being hidden from prying eyes at the post Rally concours in Monte Carlo where the phot was taken.

This photo also shows that glimpse of lap strap webbing!

When I find the source of the photo of course I will let you know.

  4. Hi Graham

I have a picture that shows the interior of VRW219 at the end of the Monte in Jan 58, there is the smallest piece of "lap strap" showing.

Certainly VHP529 had grey "lap straps", rotted beyond repair when I purchased it in 1979.(Still has the mounting holes in the rear floor). These were of the type that had a eye bolt through the structure of the car and a snap on fitting to secure the none buckle end. Not sure I would want to Rally with lap straps...

    Regards

  5. Hi Bill and Graham

this photo of VHP529 on the Monte Recce in late 57 shows a few of these"works" fitted extras.

Single Lucas Fog and Spots both 700's.

    Roof mounted RMS576

Pair of Lucas screen heaters in the front.

Single screen heater in the middle of the rear hardtop screen

These extra electrical items required the cars to be fitted with an uprated dynamo and also a completely different regulator the RB310. Original still fitted to the VHP529.

This photo helps with dates it was taken on 9th December 1957

  6. Competing against Subaru's......now thats too much for me to think about.

Would appreciate some guidance on how to get started, beginners/idiots guide type advice! :) Low key/preferably low cost to get a taster for Regularity type events

Not thinking this year but next, gives me time to get sorted.

  7. Some springs had aluminium spacers on the top others didn't.....is this the difference?

Certainly my car has short springs with an aluminium spacer with insulators above and below it. The spacer is on the top of the spring going inside the turret.

I would check again with the supplier.

  8. I can confirm that K Richardsons VHP529 ( an early 3A TS23635 O) had an RMS 573 lamp fitted from new. It was built on Nov 5th and registered on 11 Nov 1957 and was promptly used to Recce the Monte Carlo Rally (with Annie Soisbault.)

I seem to remember that Ken Ricahrdson was somehow involved in the design of the RMS576 but where I cant recall...perhaps one of F Reydellet books?

  9. Concur with Stuart front edge of the sidescreen should have a material "flange" that when shut sits neatly between the windscreen tenon plate and stancheon and unless you are driving very fast stops the sidescreen flapping about! Assuming all adjusted correctly.

Just visible in this photo of an original sidescreen.
