    Misfit, I referred to the media in general and the Beeb in particular.

    What I said was;

    The media have shown, more than once, that they can bring down Prime Ministers

    The BBC in particular, revel in their power.

    Apart from this, I tend to agree with your other comments.

    So in truth then John we agreed on all accounts, I just misread your original post. It’s the media in general. :)

    Suzanne I have lived and worked in London for around 18 months and suffered the 3rd world Tube network conditions every working day and hated it.

    Like you Andy I worked in London for 12 months and travelled from Hayes Into the city everyday, either by bus or bus and train having spit journey at Ealing common. No one likes commuting but yep it’s better if you have the infrastructure that enable you to do it dated or otherwise. Living in a rural village with a bus service twice a day on Tuesday and Thursday is very limiting.
    So literally horse power is needed, but if you are using the original single horse power for transport don’t let it poop, as blow in’s complain the roads are being contaminated.

    To be serious for just a few moments;

    The media have shown, more than once, that they can bring down Prime Ministers

    The BBC in particular, revel in their power.

    The media like to whip up hysteria about anything they can and being British, "extreme" weather is an easy target.

    The Gov't react to the media hype because we live in a litigious society and they know that, if they fail to react to the hype, they leave themselves open to the PC brigade and the media (again) who will use the opportunity to bring down ministers

    And so the cycle continues

    You refer to the BBC, it’s not just BBC, it’s Sky, ITV channel 4. they all get on the band wagon.

    It’s to hold the Government to account, for the British people, one after one asking the same bloody question. I thought it was the Labour Party job to do that.

    So how we doing now, we have someone who makes reference working for his country, while holding a green card, and a wife that’s domicile elsewhere. A Liberal Democrat and remainer, 2 junior ministers and a back bencher.

    On the other hand we could have the opposition dynamic duo Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Raynor they are bound to be better. Just my opinion but if they couldn’t decide in opposition what side of the fence to sit on, from one week to another, how are they going to run a country.  The best they could come up with, was slagging off everyone and everything the Conservative Government was doing.

    So why does the media want to bring down Governments or individuals, as I see it they could not give a stuff about the people or the country just keeping  these so called TV journalists in their well paid jobs.
    Regarding the heatwave, as a Child 60 years ago,  I was aware of really hot days spent virtually every day of the summer holiday on Goodrington beach with dolphins in the bay, watching PMW jellyfish swimming and washing up on the shore. Now having got this stage of my life I recon I know what to wear not swear and when to go out not to go out, I look after myself.I resent the BBC’s and others attempting to frighten us, continually   promoting climate change which has increase in costs of living not in a smal way because of levies imposed on energy. This has and will cause more hardship on the elderly now and when the winter comes. I suggest there’ll be substantially more death  when they can’t turn on the heating than just keeping out of the sun for a few days.
    But that’s just sn opinion.

    I think that's very unlikely for most operators in the gig economy. Deliveroo, for example, leaves it to its riders to sort out their own insurance. There are plenty of criminal cases brought to court of "no insurance" involving food delivery activities, I assume the police do a lot of checking.

    [EDIT] Just checked and one of the biggest providers of food delivery rider insurance will indeed insure learner riders, provided they've taken their basic CBT.

    Today, my daughter asked …can you cut my grass ??

    We haven’t got a lawnmower

    it took me 5 bloody hours to cut ( after strimming first )

    Crawfie

    You actually did it,  spending 5 hours of your time cutting their grass. Next time she says daddy. Sucker I’d have bought the a mower and considered it £30 well spent.

    Katie  alongside a Gloster Javelin F(AW).9R which was built in 1958 and saw service until 1966, the year before Katie (amongst the last of her line) was first registered.

    80 mile round trip from home, country village route, and in this weather very a pleasant trundle. Flixton had a good crowd today as the Copdock Bike Club also visit, with around about 120 bikes, and there was also a contingent of amazingly spotless classic Honda (Owners Club), and then again a few of the 'Distinguished Gentlemen' motorcycle club on their way back from a charity run. One of the bikes there was a limited edition (just 500) CCM 600cc single street style bike. There was a flying model club too and also static model attendees too. I enjoyed a good banter with some of the museum's volunteer staff, and some other old gaffers who came to visit this extraordinary museum.

    Otherwise, classic cars spotted include ; a couple of early short wheelbase LandRovers, a Morris Minor 1000, a plastic bumper MGB-GT, a Rover P6 2000, and what looked to be an early 1960's Bentley Continental coupe.  Very nice too.

    On the way back, just a few miles down the road, I dropped in at Billingford Mill . . .

    P1420501as.thumb.JPG.70069a7672d466f93d41ddcd3f645d08.JPG

    The mill was built in 1859-60 to replace a post mill that had succumbed to excessive winds.  The mill closed down in 1959, which is somewhat amazing in light of that being in the Javelin's era ..and its twin turbo-jet with 13, 390lb of thrust (with reheat).

    The mill is now in the capable care of 'The Norfolk Windmill Trust' ..and friends of the windmill, who raised funds for restoration between 2017 and 21.  It's a tranquil place to visit and perhaps stop for a picnic.

    Katie, behaved very well, although I was shocked when I stopped for petrol and 30 litres cost close to £60.!  Aside from that things are settling (I've done 300 miles these past 7 days) and I'm getting a few squeaks so perhaps tomorrow I'll wander around and check that bolts are pinched up.  I'll also drop the tyre pressures again, things jiggle a bit on the old Suffolk back roads that may appreciate a little more compliance.  All in all though confidence is building B)

    Bidding you a pleasant summer's evening.

    Pete
