Sadly I agree with you Pete. I have a Skinners interior in my 4a and its great but was purchased 30 yrs ago, Their quality has gone right downhill since the Dad retired. I always buy interior kits from TR Shop now.

    Stuart.

The earlier kit I bought from the TR shop, was from Skinners, Lucas wasn't too happy when I sent the door cards  back, Skinners said that they had made hundreds of door cards, and that you couldn't see it when the door was closed. I rest my case.

  2. Hello Harry,

No this car wasn't the one misrepresented, I sold that to someone in Spain. I bought this from Tom Allardyce, he imported it from CA in the USA.

I get your point about Second hand seat belts for safety reasons, TR bits also said they dont sell used belts for the same reason.

Component quality is so common sadly, I just paid £700 for an interior kit, from John Skinner, and it was so disappointing but I had bought a kit from them a couple of

years back and it was just awful.  But hey ho.  Your not so old seat belts are what make?  I'm not keen on Securing ones. could you send me a couple of pics to

        fenlon7@gmail.com    Cheers Pete.

Have you removed the windscreen capping Peter ? More information may be available there.

    Mick Richards

The hole at the top where the capping is, is large enough, its the bottom hole thats too small, as Stuart says in the following post.

  4. Am trying to fit the surrey roof top, the 2 holes in the front windscreen, appear too small under the top rail to accept the 5/16" bolt, let alone the spacer that should fit first.

Above the top rail the holes are adequate. Does the frame have to be drilled out to accept the spacer and bolt?  Car is a 1968 TR250 not previously fitted with a Surrey top.

  5. Being fortunate to have one I'm now ready to fit it.

But, do the clips go over the roof rear section and the finisher then pushed on?

Or do the clips go inside the finisher and then pushed on?

Also,  is the finisher made of stainless, or Steel then chrome plated, a magnet does clamp to it, but it  do'es when cheaper stainless is involved.

  6. I bought a Revival surrey top rear frame, had it painted and upholstered,

then got a man to fit the Laminated Moss rear screen, which he broke attempting to fit it.

Bought a used Toughened screen from another TR man, a toughened one this time, and the same window fitter tried to fit it.

But the top right hand corner of the screen wouldn't fit properly. He tried for hours.

Called revival who made the rear frame, sent pics regarding the problem, and after a couple of weeks, the owner of the company came to visit.

He removed the screen cleaned the sealer away and trial fitted an original glass panel, less the rubber seal which was a perfect fit.

Cleaned up the  old window, and trial fitted the glass I had bought, it was way out of kilter. Obviously a rogue unit from Triplex back in the day.

The point being, this man had travelled 2 hours to get to me, found the problem for me, which was none of his making, the frame was found perfect, and refused payment for his

    efforts.

Now thats customer service of the like I haven't seen for a long time. A heartfelt thanks to Ben Ferguson.

Pete, if the rear backlight is screwed down undo the nuts across the width enough to allow the backlight to be lifted maybe 6mm or more.  Don’t forget the nuts on the studs at the front either side either, I fitted mine without the stud nuts and the backlight lifted with a couple of wedges to hold it up against the loose nuts.

    Mick Richards

thanks Mick, I must be missing something here for how do you tighten the screws again, from the boot area, best Pete

  8. Have just bought a piece of plywood for over the spare wheel, and note that it needs 2 small straps to hold the rear down, the front sliding into the 2 rear brackets, just

beneath the fuel tank. But see pic there are 4 holes in the bodywork, the lower ones make sense but what are the top ones there for, puzzled, again.

    (same on the other side)
