Just got back from this gathering this morning. A good turnout of some interesting cars & good catering also. Nice venue with friendly people. Worth a visit. Only one other TR there.
-
My fuel cut-out is a delayed action unit in that it will allow starting of the car but cuts-out a short while down the road leaving the car stranded. I guess it could be a problem if it stops in the wrong place but at least they cannot drive very far.

Unless I use the higher octane E5 then I usually get a little running on.

Browns Classics monthly breakfast gathering this Saturday 7/10/23 @ Firs farm, Leckhampstead, near Newbury RG20 8RD from 1000 to 1200 hours. Might be nice run out if weather as predicted. Free entry with bacon & sausage butties available.

I am afraid one has to be very careful where we leave a TR unattended, whatever devices we may have for our cars. I have a battery disconnect, hidden fuel cut-off & a couple of steering wheel lock devices but I still worry about where I leave it. I get a little paranoid to be honest & I am always checking it at car shows or cafe stops etc! The World we live in I am sorry to say.

Hi Monty, I was just looking at this car a while back, and the reason I didn’t pursue was the wording in the description ‘There are known faults’ - I’m wondering if that should say, ‘there are no known faults’?
I may be wrong and there is known thoughts though
Ultimately though, I’m looking for a Royal Blue one and will wait until the right car comes along. Thanks though!
Best
Neil
Yes Neil, I am sure he meant ‘no known faults’. His spellchecker has not worked very well. It is a very sound car. I shall contact him now regarding his wording.

A friend of mine is selling a nice 4A, in red I am afraid, but he has looked after it well & has a low mileage since restoration. A very honest seller & car. Advertised on www.carandclassic & is the car based in Tring. Worth a serious look.

A reasonable priced (compared to some like Millers) 20/50 with good ZDDP is Classic Oils of Bicester with their Heritage 20/50. I started using this around a couple of years ago with no problems, good pressure etc because the previous Millers 20/50 was getting too expensive.
Classic Oils seem to be a good friendly Company, Guy Lachlan is a helpful guy!

Fitted the CDD units around 2000 miles ago & no issues as yet. Seem to be very well engineered. The supplier was very helpful & knowledgable.

Yes rather an immaculate area!

1. Don't have a smart meter so they can't just switch you off
2. Make sure you have a log burner
3. Have a back boiler in a fireplace so you can have hot water and a warm room
4. Stock up on candles and torches. A wind up torch and a wind up radio are useful.
5. Don't have an electric car - have a petrol or diesel instead.
6. Have your camping stove and gas canisters at the ready.
7. An old fashioned gas cooker that doesn't need electricity would be handy.
8. Have a phone land line with the handsets connected by wire. Works in a power cut. Mobiles can run out of charge when you need them.
Wait a minute though. Several of these ideas aren't net zero and could land you in trouble with these new laws. Do I care? Not really.

An excellent list Keith! This Country has gone completely bonkers!

We have already started thinking about an International of the future, with a hotel based event but with camping nearby. I used the TRCH50 event as an example of how it can be done well.
I think it is an inevitable shift but when? 2025? I would be interested in members views.
Mick
Asap! Many people do not want to camp these days!

Just had my renewal & my premium has risen 12% plus I am a little concerned that the breakdown cover is provided by RAC who have had some bad press within our forum recently. Apart from the Club insurance who are people mainly insured with & what have been their experiences? Ideally I would like to consider a change to somebody who uses an alternative to the RAC or gives the option to opt out of breakdown cover & to go elsewhere. Any comments will be appreciated.
Had a very nice conversation yesterday with a very pleasant lady @ TR Insurance & received a very competitive quotation with all I required that also knocked spots off my existing premium, even before the 12% increase!

It's the cynicism of the thing that gets me. Effectively what Khan is saying is "I think your car is killing people but pay me £12.50 a day and I'll let you carry on doing it."
If there really was a problem then the only ethical solution would be an outright ban, but of course that generates no revenue.......
Spot on Rob, I was only making exact same point to friends over dinner yesterday! Just an extra tax!

A centre lock wheel such as knock on wires or alloys need those cones to balance correctly as Drewmotty says. I have the knock on Minilite alloys & Blockley Tyres in Gloucestershire have been the only people near to me that have done the job properly using the correct cones.

Just had a renewal quote of £131 from Lancaster, a big jump from £83.50 last year so I went on a comparison site and I am now insured with Lancaster for £83.50! Recovery insurance with the AA so fingers crossed.
Cheers
Richard
Richard, was the AA recovery an option with Lancaster or did you have to have it inclusive?

Probably a bit of a way for you but Blockley tyres down in the Cotswolds can do it.

I looked on the Revington site but to no avail. However I doubt if they would be cheaper than the ones Peter has found. Spark plugs will come from Halfords I guess. I have read before about the number of fake ones about.Peter:
Excellent find. I wonder if they will fit the Strombergs though. I know the hole positions are right but not sure if they will clash with the Stromberg bodies. Plus I have a home made cable throttle which includes a bar between the two carbs to mount the cable and this might clash as well.
I look forwards to seeing any photo you come up with.EDIT. Just found these for the stromberg. Totally different shape (Different float chamber, of course!)

Sorry Charlie, I was thinking alternator heat shield from Revington! Old age blip again!

Heat shield from Revington & a fresh set of genuine NGK plugs would be my starting point.

If we are going to persist with gatherings @ places like expensive show grounds such as Malvern & Bath then let’s be prepared to have to dig into the reserves to pay for it! The alternative is to find nice smaller venues such as we have had @ Walton Hall. It will be interesting to see the attendance figures for the recent TR70.

Yes many of us have fitted the CDD units. Were these the actual real culprits? It would be nice to know exactly what the problems were with them.
