  1. Just had my starter solenoid fail. With the subject of poor quality parts often arising is the standard item from Moss or Rimmers ok or are there better quality options around? Much of a muchness?

  2. I am always amazed that in this Country directors can cheat & defraud people many times & are still allowed to go on & start up again under a different name only to repeat their cheating ways. I remember a situation a few years ago of a Company who supplied us with patio doors that turned out to be faulty. After several complaints from us & others he closed the business & went off with a new business name & run from the same premises selling the same doors & windows! Could not sue him or get the money back as he filed for bankruptcy!

Whats bonkers is sitting back and letting it happen without making those taking decisions that will affect you, the value of your home, the financial costs to you, even your way of life, aware of your thoughts, not saying anything where it might count. How many of you have written to your MP, explaining your displeasure. Stand up or shut up would be my father’s words. Make you feeling known where it might have an effect.

Always writing to my MP about various issues that affect all of us! Do you know what? Very little response!

Consider these seat options from Ridgard Seats

not only great seats but a company rescued by a TRmember and who has gone on to sponsor the club’s championship thus very worth supporting.

I had Ridgards in my TR4. Very comfortable. Expect them to still be good from the new owner but probably a little on the high side price wise? I have Cobra Classics in my 4A & they have been good for 15 years. Obtained from Merlin Motorsport @ a reasonable cost. The critical thing in a TR4 or 4A is the width in the cabin for non-standard seats.

Electric resistance heating has become my preferred option while I wait for the skills base in 'green' alternatives to fossil fuelling to mature and the installation costs to come down. When our 30-year old oil boiler dies we will save on its replacement cost, servicing costs, and oil costs - and use cheap, reliable, elecrical heaters. No need to find a plumber - we can let the c'heating die too -it is always  giving problems. For power cuts we have a smokeless fuel/log fire. OK, its not green, but it saves a huge amount of hassle.

Given up trying to be ‘green’ Peter with the inflated costs for electric, gas or oil! 2 wood burners are our preference in our 2 main rooms!

Despite what advertising guff you might read, All resistive electrical heaters are 100% efficient; there is no difference between them in how much heat you get for a given power consumption. The only differences are in how quickly they transfer the heat to the room.

A fan heater will provide hot air immediately and stop as soon as the power is switched off.  It is probably the quickest means of heating the air in a room but not being sealed is possibly not a good choice for a bathroom unless it can be wall mounted out of reach.

An oil-filled radiator or similar storage convection heater will take a while to warm up to a useful temperature  and will continue to provide heat long after the power is switched off.  They are best for long-term background heat rather than for the odd hour or two.

A direct non-storage convection heater will be quick to warm up but will be slow to heat the air in a room because it is relying on convection rather than fan circulation.  Again, they may not be suitable for a bathroom.

Infra-red heaters feel warm immediately to exposed skin facing the heater, but they don't warm the air quickly and skin not exposed to the IR continues to feel cold.

Given the cost of electricity, no electrical heater is cheap to run.

No form of heat is cheap to run these days! No gas supply in the vicinity, oil prices will go higher & a heat pump or solar panels cost mean I will be long gone before costs are recouped! Electric is the only real option in my case.

  7. Not sure what he used but my local garage had to tighten my loose high-torque the other week. Did not turn the front plate but said he had the tools to do it & indeed he did, phoning me in quick order after I had left the car with him! I guess experience is the key as I could not see how it could easily be done without garage facilities of ramp etc.

  8. Considering changing one storage heater in a small cloakroom/toilet after redecoration. Does anybody have any experience in what is the most economical electric radiator to replace it? So many options out there, infra-red, German made, convector, oil-filled etc. All very confusing but I want something that is cheap to run & efficient in heating a small room, around once a day for only a few hours in cold periods.

  9. What a player & gentleman. I believe he was never booked during his wonderful career. A boyhood hero of mine along with the other ‘Busby babes’ of pre-Munich. I still remember after all these years almost all of us boys @ school in tears when that terrible event occurred. The loss of those brilliant players such as Duncan Edwards & Tommy Taylor was hard to take & it was with great relief & thanks to see Bobby recover & become the great player he turned out to be. He gave us some superb football. RIP Sir Bobby.

  10. All this appears to be doing is replacing the original PCV. As I understand it a proper catch tank arrangement should be similar to the Racetorations kit that I have fitted, which is a hose from the rocker cover to the catch tank complete with flame trap, along with a second hose from the engine block to the tank & then an outlet from the tank to the outside. This creates a better engine breathing system than the original PCV setup. If you see the muck my catch tank collects that is no longer going anywhere near the inlet manifold!
