Overdrive, whilst you have the choice. Makes driving on A and B roads better and makes motorways tolerable.

Mine was via TR Enterprises as part of the build.
It was recommended by Steve following his rally experiences and I have to say it’s brilliant. I only ever have it on for les than a minute and it does the job. In Ireland this year, when it was a tad wet at times, it kept the screen clear as a TR screen would ever be. I have a warning light to show it’s on, which is a good idea. Although if you do leave it on, the outside world can do a bit of a “shimmy”
I think it used to be available via Moss

I have the heated windscreen. A quick go now and again sorts misting out a treat.

Thanks for looking at this and to those that contacted me.
The chap has been tempted back to the dark side with a Porsche 912 project.
Too tempting to let go in the end
-
Thanks Hamish. ????????
I like it too.......hence not for sale....
-
I sent it to him.
Tempting, but then remembered he’d just become a grandfather

A mate of mine, who is a previous TR owner and restorer, cannot shake the TR addiction and is wondering about a TR4 again. Whilst he is a competent restorer, the arrival of a new grandchild means that he really wants a good solid driving car in good order. Surrey top would be good too. Reasonable modifications may be interesting ( he likes my car, but it isn't for sale ).
If you have a suitable 4 for sale please pm me and I can pass the info on.

The MGOC has, as far as I'm aware, been a commercial operation from its inception in 1973 - a private limited company, the holders of its 100 shares owning the company, which is run by just two directors . . . . . . and all credit to Roche Bentley for his initiative. He has done remarkably well for himself.
That is a very different concept from the TR Register . . . . we are a private company limited by guarantee, we exist solely for the benefit of our members, and there are no shareholders to support. Our directors are elected, not self-appointed, unremunerated volunteers supported by just a trio of employees, not a staff of several dozen.
There are potential merits in both types of operation, but I for one am quite happy to see the TRR sticking to our TRaditional path, a club owned by the members for the sole benefit of those members . . . . . and I'll accept the limitations that path imposes on the scope of our activities.
Cheers,
Alec

That man deserves a beer...Oh wait, he has one about 14.19

Looks good.
Here is one that I use in the NW
https://www.tyresonthedrive.com/
Excellent service but supply mainstream tyres. If I need something for the TR, I'll buy from a specialist and they will fit for me. They do all cars for me now and normally can't be beaten.

I was put off bullet style and went for Tex flat ones as TR6 original I think.
Having driven a car with bullet style, it was one of my better decisions.

I have the ctek battery maintainer which was essential for my old E Merc ( now probably a taxi somewhere ). The battery would be flat after just over a week of non use. I now use this on the Porsche, which requires a good battery charge to let you get in and start - like a lot of cars with electric interfaces you don’t want a flat battery and all the resets.
I bought another ctek awhile ago, different connectors, for my wife’s Micra and the TR.
The TR doesn’t normally need a charge, but it does have a full isolation switch.
One Ctek is over 10 years old and no probs at all and the other is over 5 years old. Again no probs.

Personally I run both the TR and "Darth Vaders Porsche" on Shell V Power and go to BP Ultimate if not available.
I do use Millers additive in the TR, occasionally.

See you at Oulton, I hope

We use the Surrey Hardtop most of the year and it's great. Good for a bit of security as well.
Contrary to popular belief, the hardtop section does come off for part of the year and I get a bit of fresh air

Graham,
Mine was done by TR Enterprises at Blidworth, near Mansfield. I'm very happy with mine. A local engineer and vintage racer drove mine this week and said " that brings a smile to your face".
Talk to a few potential builders - you'll get some other recommendations as well. When you start talking details, be very clear what you are looking for from the unit.

Checking the insurance cover is essential.
ALl the above are good and depend on how far you want to go.
...and one more would be a driveway barrier bollard ( the type that retracts ) as an example :

A friend recently had a superb E Type Coupe stolen. His pride and joy.
SOme police advice he received was to turn the wheels on lock and fit a disklok. Hard to tow away as well like that.

Smithy Garage Sandbach. They service a range of classics as well as modern motors ( though they have a love of classics really ). Richard ( proprieter ) is an engineer and works on his own family racing 500's and he is restoring a junior. Not connected, but I have used successfully. Nice guys.
Also he has a TR4, so he knows the family.

I reckon the Rheostat is as useful as a chocolate whatever. You could always use the hole for another warning light / low oil pressure, overdrive or electric fan.....
