Yes some people are asking for a lot of money for TRs; I was only talking to towergate and suggested their scale for valuation should be adjusted as cars seem to be of a higher value than they were a few years ago
Just on the values of cars I was looking in this months {Octane magazine} and there is a TR 8 worksupported rally car in there for £54,995, and a TR 4 with works rally spec for £39,995 so if you have got a few bob to spare you can splash out and buy yourself a nice run about with or without road tax

Thanks Tony for the reply; you would have thought so; but they are not there; I wonder if there is a different loom for earlier and later TR's or the overseas spec
A lot of the later cars had their interior light around the ignition switch or under the dash
I don't really want to have to pull up the carpet looking for it; I think that if there is no purple and white wire present behind the seat area I don't think they will be there and I will have to follow the loom through to the front and see if there is another connector round the dash area
Thanks again

I have decided to re-instate the tunnel light in the TR6
My car had a new wiring loom fitted about 10 years ago. After opening up the loom at the rear of the passenger seat I can't find a take off or a return to the tunnel light
There is a purple wire which is the permanent feed but cannot find the purple and white; can anyone tell me if the new wiring looms do not have the facility for rewiring the tunnel light, or do I have to take a feed back to the purple and white at the door switches; I can easily do this but it would be a shame to run wires round if the connections are hidden somewhere else
Thanks in anticipation

This is why I sealed up my vent lid. Letting water into a closed steel box is one of Triumph's more bonkers ideas. The heater now gets its air through the wiper wheelbox cover holes, and the rest of the plenum provides a warm home for spiders.
Ivor
Hi Ivor
What a good idea, do's it work Ok ? and do's it still demist the screen with the hood up in heavy rain ?
(ie 2007 Malvern floods )

No it was me bringing the dashboard in for a polish in the utility room,
me taking apart the instruments and spraying them in the kitchen,
and me for air vents and other parts for cleaning in the conservatory,
but I blamed it on Miss Scarlet in the library with the lead piping
Shes OK now after a big bunch of flowers
Ps thank for the commission plate it looks the part
Cheers Gordon
I,v started putting all back together tonight and ,, then I had to take it out again ,,

Hi Gordon
I know of one very grateful Red Rose member who would be happy to help you put the jigsaw back together.
Roger
Cheers Roger,, I'll put the kettle on ,
don't forget you need your passport coming into Cheshire
I knew that part would come in useful one day
Cheers Gordon
PS , I did't know what was wrong with Mrs G last night but I found out this morning; she said she didn't like the kitchen and dining room being turned into a garage and she said, why don't you bring the whole car in!!

Thanks Guys for the replies; some very impressive dashboards there and a lot of hard work has gone into them to get the end result
I have decided that I should keep the car original and the wood itself wasn't too bad so on Sunday after rescuing a stranded Red Rose member I decided I should get started as it is only 3 weeks till the Tatton show; so I started by taking the chairs out which gives a lot more space to work in; took out the radio H frame, the heater controls and the plinth; then all the instruments came off followed by the dash. I gave the dashboard a good clean and then a few coats of polish; the end result looks very good and I don't think there is much more to do with it
I have now taken the instruments apart and cleaned them and sprayed them and reassembled them and they look pretty good but what a fiddly job!!
I am now waiting for a new central panel that house the heater controls and choke; it took 2 hours to take apart and probably 2 weeks to put back together !!
Once again thanks for all your replies

Starting to spruce up the cockpit area; I thought I would start with the dash and the instruments first of all.
Has anybody refurb'd the aged wooden veneer with either varnish or a type a lacquer; what was the finished quality like or is it best just to renew?
My wooden dashboard is not marked or scratched; it just looks a little tired after 40 years and I wondered whether its best to keep the original and refurb it or splash out on a new one

One of our Red Rose members did the same thing, he wrote an article for the Red Rose newsletter; I cannot remember exactly what he did but in the end he made a long spike and he managed to get the piece of plastic or the stopper out of the fuel tank; probably the best solution is to partly drain the tank, you could probably siphon it out then hopefully the stopper should be more towards the drain. The tool he used looked like one of those telescopic magnet/mirror but I dont suppose it really matters, but be careful what sort of light you use
If I can find the article I will post it
Good Luck

Not guilty! I hate red and Im the first if theres any doubt in the customers mind to suggest any other colour. Now if you want Royal Blue not a problem sir I will buy it by the gallon!!
Stuart.
Sorry Stuart,, My TR6 WAS Royal Blue with a gold pin stripe,
Then at the rebuild I was asked what color would you like
I said signal red
I still like Royal Blue,, but it will stay red now,

Hi Richard
Yes they look very impressive , do they have the knock off type with the spinners ?
I'v decided to go for silver , 5 1/2 or 6 ins ? and tyres , im following another post on that topic ,
I will have more time in April to make a more accurate decision ,
Thanks for your input Gordon

Hi Gordon,
How about these, silver rim with dark grey center?
Cheers,
Tim
Hi Tim
Dolphin Grey ,, the car looks excellent, very impressive car
Hope my looks as good when its finished
Hi Alan
Thanks for the info; following your new thread on wheels; I see you are experimenting with colours and styles of wheels; can't wait to see the finished product
As I said before the final choice will be made by my wife; she has extremely good taste

Sorry to hear about this; I too fitted a fibreglass gearbox cover; they are very good but difficult getting to certain parts when in position. I had to drill a hole in the side to access the angle drive; I have read since that you can get a 2 part cover that splits in two so that you can access the rear of the gear box easier
Thinking of the radio hole welded over and recovered then fitting a clock and gauges still not decided due to changing its original looks

Thanks Guys for letting me see all your impressive vehicles; still undecided the final decision is with my good lady
Yes I am making this decision to put minilites on because having the wires on doesn't seem to handle as well as it did in the eighties. I know that classics don't handle like a modern car but I remember being able to powerslide round an island and feel confident with its handling. The wires seem to have too much play; also the tyres are a bit too wide and the steering is heavy
I thought the quickest solution was to be able to change the wheels quickly using spinners so that I can change the wheels for different occassions; still deciding on diameter and width; may use 15x6
Very impressive car Alan; do you have a supercharger? by the look of your smaller photo
Neil I think I will skip on the ribbons; very impressive car also
Harald will use yours to make my decision on the black they look very good indeed
Thanks Guys will send a picture when I make my decision
Cheers Gordon

Thanks for the photo Alan - very nice looking car; will make a decision over the next few weeks
You have put down 16 inch; do you have any problems with clearance under the wings?
Signing out now till Monday

I am thinking of doing the same thing to my H frame; filling in the radio hole and recovering then fitting clocks and switches in that spot. Have you got a photograpgh of the end result?
Other than that may fit a radio blank and mount them in that
Cheers Gordon

I am thinking of buying a set of minilites for long journeys and keeping the wires for local events
Has anybody with minilites fitted to a red 6 got a photograph on how they look either in silver or anthracite
I like the sound of the anthracite but don't know if it will suit the car; so any photographs that anyone has with them fitted on their 6 would be great to see

Hi Art
Did you manage to find any information out on the spare wheel cover; if you did how much were they asking?
Is this part not available through Moss or any other main dealers?
Regards Gordon
