  1. My last Traction was no.342 and I think that I may be missing the latest. Has any one received a later copy and what number is out now. Please let me know ?

If I do not have the TR magazine to read last thing I end up on the iPhone screen reading the news which is mostly depressing. I need to finish the day as positively as possible.

    Come back Traction!

  2. Thanks for the help. I will have to order the Penrite unless there is a thicker one available which will leak less easily. Moss supply the gasket but their delivery charges are too high. Driving there to collect will be a bank breaker, so who can sell me the oil , the gasket and the Wellseal.

Tr shop used to be my local store but I am now in Sussex.

    Thanks Richard & B

  3. Easter is here and the sun is out, so I plan to service my TR. I am keen to seal the top  plate on the steering box to avoid a minor leak.

     1. What would be the best sealant to use ?

     2. Will I I need a new gasket ?

     3. What is the best oil ?

     4. Practical tips on how to avoid any sealant near the peg and worm.

     5. What cleaner should I use on the bare metal faces

I  need a need a reliable supplier and I am hoping to only make one order and need to know who can supply all to combine postage and packing.

I am keen on some advice from members who have been successful.

    Thanks Richard and B.

  4. It was useful to watch the Utube before starting the valve replacement. It was a bit awkward in a small space.  After about 1/2 hour I fired up the dishwasher and water was leaking on to the floor. There was a new error code E15. On a closer inspection the new valve was not quite correctly lined up. I removed it and used some Castrol rubber grease for a very light smear on the sealing o ring. I pushed it harder into place and twisted it carefully to lock it.  It lined up better.  I ran a short wash programme. It went through well and now we will give it a proper wash cycle. after lunch.

My son left Devon at about 5.00 pm and was driving on the M25 with arrival in Sussex planned for 9.00 pm. But the motorway was flooded and he did not get here until 2.15 am on 1.4.23.

Meanwhile  the Tr is out in the garage and starting very well. I hope the roads dry off and I can go out ??

    Thanks Richard & B

  5. I am clearing my garage and there are some front body parts from  a Riley Brooklands Treen Special. KBP 791. It was a car that I bought in the early 60's and sold on because it had no weather equipment. I replaced it with a mini.  The front panel  of the Riley has a Treen badge and I am sure that the current owner would be interested. I sent a letter to the family who bought the car from me at least 40 years ago. They know that it was sold in Belgium by an auctioneer who would not pass on the buyers identity. So the car now lives in Belgium . Do we have any TR members in that country who could help locate the car. It was black and I changed the radiator cover to a chrome one from a scrapyard in Lancing Sussex.

It is a long shot posting on the TR forum but I usually find some help. It will also feature in the Riley newsletter , deadline tonight.

    Thanks Richard & B

  6. Hi Charlie,

I  am always repairing things at home and mostly in the garage. Our local repair man is £80.00 call out plus parts. Tomorrow I plan to buy a valve from Ransom Spares if they have one in stock ?? I hope that I have made an accurate diagnosis.

The work at home always takes longer than you think.

    Thanks  Richard & B

  7. Last night I was late to bed and the last task was to fire up the Bosch  dishwasher. I pressed the go button and a fault code came up E 19.  After some searching it seems as if I need to replace the Heater Exchange Outlet Valve. I have watched two videos and it looks more straight forward than fitting a distributor to my 3A.

Is it worth buying in the valve at £22.75 delivered, from a spares company or should I call up the local engineer ??

Meanwhile I am washing up and drying which I have not done for years.

    Any advice would be useful.

  8. How things have changed. I remember getting our first TV which was B&W  My grandson is much better than me in the internet world. This Saturday I was out in the woods with my dog and arranged to call my wife to collect us when we were ready.  At that point I realised that my mobile was still on charge in the kitchen. So I could not call home.  I walked  through the last bit of the bridleway to the Roebuck Inn and asked if I could use the 'phone and have a drink, Lemon and Soda.  I do not know many telephone numbers now but I do know my wife's contact. I never have to dial it, because it is saved under favourites,  so very lucky that I knew it. I was not familiar with their handset but they cleared the screen for me. I made contact with home and problem over. While I was waiting , it was lunchtime , so I read the menu and was thinking of fish and chips and two drinks. Food was £16.75 x 2  plus 10% and two drinks leaves not much change from £45. So I gave up on that idea.

I am sure that I can remember fish and chips being less than 5 bob. There were three other tables eating lunch so I am getting older and left behind in changing times. But I like emails, mobiles,  the Internet, and Google. So modern life really. Many things have changed since I was much younger and by mistake bought an old car outside a pub. It was the TR3A and changing times have made it better than it was at 8 years old.

What will happen next  out in the world  ??

  9. Thanks for the reply Rob. I think that I will leave the regulator alone until the spring weather starts.  Battery used to need regular servicing and now it never needs any top up at all. I do not drive much at night but there is always an element of worry . When the sun comes out I may upgrade the regulator to 22 amps unless I am advised to leave it alone and enjoy the TR.

Thanks for your help Richard & B

  10. Some years ago I fitted a solid state regulator to my TR3A. It was a DVR 3-P made by Dynamo Regulators Ltd. It made a great improvement immediately because there were no points to clean/adjust and my ammeter never went to charge. The needle stayed central.

I was very satisfied with this for many years. I did notice that if you used the headlights ,and/or the heater fan, the ammeter would show discharge. I have been OK with this for a long time but I decided to upgrade this spring. I called the company but they now only do Motor Cycle electrical parts. I was advised to upgrade from 16 amps to 22 amps and they told to contact Electro Dynamic Solutions. Before I start with someone new I need to know if my existing dynamo will work properly with a 22 amp solid state regulator. How can I tell by looking in the engine bay , oily and dark. or are all TR dynamo made to cope.

I am hoping that there are members on this forum who are better at electrics than me.

    Thanks Richard & B

  11. I have a high quality cast sump for my TR3A. I bought it when my engine was overheating and I wanted to keep the oil safe. It turns out that he engine was the problem and Racetorations rebuilt it for me and the overheating stopped. Later I changed the sump back to an original size and this one is now for sale. It has some minor scratch to one corner.

It will soon be on eBay when the grand children help me downloading pictures.

    Thanks Richard & B

  12. Hi,

I have to clear my garage and have listed over 20 different spare parts. They are mostly old and cleaned after storage since 1986. There are instruments and some suspension parts. I would prefer to clear all to one person. Is it better to use the forum or Ebay. My daughter says use Facebook. What do the forum users recommend.

    Thanks Richard & B

  13. I have an original steering wheel for the TR3. It is in good condition and has not been used for over 40 years. I completed my overhaul in the early 80's and at last I am clearing out the garage.  The steering wheel is in good clean condition and I have advertised it on eBay to attract a wider audience. It is going live today and should finish in about five days. I also have two hood  frames which support the hood and once I get in the garage there will be other parts. If anyone needs a part please let me know. There is an overhauled control box as well.

Very cold here is Sussex at present and the TRi is running well , when the road are dry !!

I am looking forward to Shepton Mallet as long as I do not have to visit the prison.

    Richard & B

  14. Thanks for the replies.

Suzanne has not explained the Wayne reference yet. The bonfire is cancelled and my local tip has an old engine oil facility. So at the moment all things are in good shape.

    Thanks Richard & B

  15. I used some suppliers in West London and I was wondering where Ken kept his spares. Please can someone post an address or area so that I can remember where he was ??

I was an early customer at a garage in West London back in the late 60's

    Thanks Richard & B
