Very helpful and very timely Ian.

If you want the complete picture you need both the Heritage and Mike Ellis research. Yes the Heritage cert is expensive for what it is but it looks nice.

Which one was first?
They get very jealous so I never did disclose who won 1st place. They are both #1 to me.

Does any one know if it is OK to find Mr Tushingham and contact him? Or does he not want to be bothered?
Chef Tush is all over the internet, I doubt that he is hiding and he seems like a nice guy.

While you have it apart it is not a bad idea to add a ground wire to the rear lamp housings and not just rely on it grounding through the fasteners. There is a terminal on the base for it, just need to run a wire to a a good ground connection in the trunk.

RHS rear lamp platform on my 1960 TR3a

Car show in the side yard. I won 1st and 2nd place.

My commission number is also 324 lower than the engine number. 1960 TR3a.

Just get it media blasted. The needle scaler will not get into all the places that media under pressure will clean. Gbp 750 is rediculous.

Thank you I will see if I can figure out which one this is and start the hunt for the other one.
I have several in a box in the basement if you get stuck. Just need to see if any of them work !

That is an excellent solution Drew and it will be my plan B. Looking at the bumper iron on a TR3a, how beefy it is and how it is bolted to the frame I think my plan A will be a tow strap secured by a bolt into an existing hole (perhaps enlarged a bit) in the bumper iron. Given that the use will be a slow tow into the trailer I cant imagine that putting a lot of stress on that bumper iron.

This location on the passenger side (avoiding the steering box) looks to have potential. Secure a bracket under the bumper iron bolts.

Where did you attach that Hamish ?. I dont see a problem with a strap attached with a bolt to something solid. With a flat tow even up a 10 degree trailer ramp we are looking at maybe 700 lbs load on the strap/bolt.

We should be celebrating the quirky 70's colors like magenta, topaz and poo brown and not painting them red.

I'm opening up this topic again because I have just installed an electric winch in my trailer just in case I need to recover one of my cars or someone else's. I tested the winch using a strap around a lower suspension arm and connecting the winch hook to the strap. It was not a simple operation getting the strap around the lower arm and doing it in the dark on a wet night would be worse. So I'm looking at options for a metal tow loop that I can just hook the winch on to.
A cursory evaluation make me think something attached via the two bumper iron bolts on the passenger side would work. Probably have to fabricate something or at least fabricate something that a store bought tow loop would screw into.

Very nice Stuart. Even has a matching wheelbarrow.

Car looks pretty good in the pictures Steve. 1972 TR6 with in a color that was introduced in 1973. Is that just calendar/model year overlap ?

To give you some idea, my late 60 3a has an EB number 1987 lower than the commission number, and these were the original plates still in situ on the American import when I bought it.
Also had engine no 278 lower than commission number.
No body number was recorded in the factory records (according to Heritage Certificate), so I assume the factory did not place much importance on it, probably just used for internal reference until the commission no had been allocated.
Ralph.
The service offered via Mike Ellis will yield a missing body number if you have the commission number.

No, its the only way round it can be, & not backwards.
Bob.
I should pay more attention. While the holes for the studs are the same either way the cover is higher on one side to clear the rocker gear. So while a TR3 or TR4 cover will fit a TR3 they only fit one way.

Any chance the TR4 rocker cover has something to do with a performance cam?
I think it is a TR3 valve cover installed backwards.

I just did my TR6 top. There are 4 longer screws to accommodate the multiple layers of metal in some places.
14 8-32 pan head slotted machine screws, 3/8 inch long
4 8-32 pan head slotted machine screws, 1/2 inch long
18 8-32 nuts, flat washers & lock washers
Also, the rubber seal from TRF had an open channel underneath and was well clear of any screw heads. I just lubed it up and slid it in.
