Morning all,
My Dad's rather nice and very low mileage TR6's seat foams are disintegrating. The vinyl covers are fine.
Is it possible to peel the covers of the original foams and "re-fill" with new foams?
I have tried to convince him to have new covers, but, like the remnants of the foam, he's rather attached to them!
Advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Pete,
Make sure you blank-off the 45-deg angle pipes just in front of the dashpots. They're for the later Dolly/ TR7 breather system and not needed on the TR4.
Cheers!

Hi Peter,
The drive dog IS offset, although it may not look it.
Try slowly rotating the rotor arm with downward pressure until the dog engages.
If the drive gear has disengaged from the cam be VERY careful if you remove the drive gear: There's a woodruff key on the oil pump drive shaft which just aches to fall off, potentially into the sump!!! (remove the oil pump shaft and peen the slot for the key slightly to hold the key tightly).
Good luck!

Apologies, just realised I meant choke cable! DUUUUUuuuurrrr (Thanks Menno!)

Check your bonnet opening cable - This can become the earthing strap if the others are missing or corroded and can get very hot!

BTW, He's the one with long hair and sunglasses in the photo....

You just need a radio and you could have a disco in there Ian!
Pete, Chic Doig are doing chrome stalk O/D switches, although they seem a little shorter than original.

You can, but you don't have to.
I seem to remember you can increase the gap from 25thou to 32thou.
Ages since I did mine: Can't quite recall off the top of my head!

Hi Pete,
Quasar Engineering in Stockport can probably sort this for you.
They do all kinds of motor-related engineering (lightening/ balancing etc etc)

Maybe add a reversing light capability too?

Having been disappionted with rear geabox mounts of varying "upratedness" I've decided to try a mod of my own and filled the space in the mounting with "Sikaflex" type material to see if it helps maintain the position of the rubber inside the mount.
Worth a try...

Probably 180 degrees out.
Ask me how I know! My ears are still ringing from the ALMIGHTY back fire this created!!!!!

Rear gearbox mount most likely.
They don't seem to last long: Even the "uprated" one I've had recently has given up after only 3 years.
Easy enough to replace once the gearbox tunnel is off.
Good luck!

I found 185s unpredictable on my TR4. They would grip, grip, grip then let go, rather than prgressively slide (which is what the 165 full profiles do).
Much nicer drive on the 165s - Steer it with the throttle!

The Contis CT82 have served me well (165/80) but tempted to try Vredesteins's next time.

My previous post said 7 o'clock, it's actually a more like 4 o'clock

I'm sure the Lockheed type should have the air valve/ white circular thingy pointing at about 7 o'clock...maybe wrong.
Anyway, the location in the engine bay is spot on!

Hi Pete,
Have a look on my website. You'll see photo of the engine bay.
I put it on the passenger side as there's so much more space there: It seems to make sense rather than crowding everything in around the carbs etc etc. (Less heat on the passenger side too)
Hope the rebuild is progressing well.

Yep, it's 36 degrees in my garage too (F not C)
Will be spending the weekend re-installing the flywheel/ clutch/ gearbox etc etc etc
Oh joy...

Wire the alternator back to the battery side of the solenoid.
Leave the ammeter as is, it will only show discharge, but at least you know the charging current is not going through the original wiring..

Glad to hear you're back up and running! Eagerly awaiting O/D and balanced flywheel etc for mine...
Look forward to the photos.

I assume you've checked that the front springs are identical with/ without spacers as required?
The aluminium spacers should correlate to an equivalent change in body height. The leather washers will compress.

PS: Engine looking mean!
