  1. Gerald or Geraldine, if a gorilla (and his Rottie) catches up with the blighter then quality of life will be a thing of the past. Fractures aren't subject to gender, and the Rottie bites whatever he's told to. What goes around etc etc. Scum like 'Gerald' put themselves outside the law.

    Cheers,

With all the ex colonial connections coming up on this thread it sounds like developing into another episode of Rourke's Drift, maybe a Gorilla, Rottie and a contingent of the Warwickshire Regiment of Foot may come in handy!

I found the most awkward pegs to fix were on the sides and door.

All looked lovely with the tonneau cover and /or soft top fitted but when i had finished fettling the sidescreens at least 4 pegs clashed with the sidescreens mounted, especially the ones just behind the door.

In the end I gave up and place a rubber stop over these when the roof is not fitted!

  3. Or stick it in the boot and leave it open!

Run KN Minilite lookalike knock offs on mine with 185/70 Vredenstein Sprint Classics and all fits fine with the inner rear wings rolled up.

Keep an old 155 tyre on a 48 spoke wire wheel as a spare along with about half the tools and spares known to man!

Really handy that spare wheel box!!

If you can get to it, check out the camshaft rear plug, This was weeping on mine and was put right by revingtons as they already had the gearbox out.

I knew there was a leak somewhere and had put it down to the the scroll seal, but as it was not too bad, I ignored it and shoved a piece of cardboard on the garage floor!

  5. Second belt string I have replied to in 5 mins!!!

Look up 'WyKo' on the web they do industrial belts and bearings.

Give them the size of belt 'A' being the profile and 965 being the length in mm and order a couple on your card. they are not expensive and last longer than the usual stuff from Halfords or whoever!

    It is not too complicated.

Wrap a piece of string round the pulleys you have and measure in mm - that is the length of the belt you need.

The profile of the belt is SPA - 'A' being the wedge belt depth, pitch and width.

Look on the Web and find your nearset 'Wyko' outlet for industrial bearings and belts, quote the length you need and 'spa' as the profile and they will let you have the nearest size.

I normally set the adjustments mid way before measuring the length of belt you would need.

Order a couple (1 for spare) they will usually take a card order over the phone and the belts are relatively cheap £3 or £4 each.

    Good luck

Not far out - TS25733 - engine 25750 but then she is an original right hand drive Jan 1958 (happy 50th)

I got the manifold information from parts catalogue part no 305547.

The boss casting was an early experiment with emissions control

I guess the CKD Left hand drives were different - as far as I understand the factory were not too fussy about what 1 3/4 high port inlet manifold came out of the parts bin and would often use older stock if it made little or no difference!

Bill Piggot often refers to whole batches of cars being produced with components 2 or 3 years older!

I would have liked the banjo type tops to my carb float chambers but they wern't available at the time of her rebuild (one had snapped off) so both float chambers got changed to the later type.

    Roll on spring

  8. Remember many moons ago travelling to and from France from Southend Airport in a Carvair, the last time with my Parents in a Mark 1 Cortina circa 1970 with the roof rack piled high with camping gear.

The baggage handlers had to jump up and down on it to get it under the cockpit and my Dad was driving it on board off of the lift!

I seem to remember it being a bit bigger than the Plane in your picture?

I believe the Carvair was a converted DC4 but I am not sure.

    Happy days

    Unc :(

  9. Thanks Philip

Any idea of approx numbers to date, from TRR and TSSC ?

Me just being nosey, you understand.

Well 6 cars from the East Saxons will be travelling down on the Thursday via Speedferries.

John and Allan who you tied up with in Brittany this year will be coming along as well.

We are booked into Le Mans with Team Triumph, although we will be staying off site, but probably spending a fair amount of time at Tetre Rouge.

In 2006 I believe there was some 300 or so cars from the Register and TSSC combined!

    Cheers

  10. Still have the scroll type fitted after my engine rebuild - the advice from my mechanic being 'if it isn't broke don't fix it'.

You've guessed it - the odd drip developed after about 7K - 8K miles - enough for me to leave a piece of cardboard under the engine and the Old Girl not being very welcolm on peoples nice new block paved drives!

I left it for a year thinking 'they all leak a bit that is why the front of the chassis is so good'.

Well it turns out it was the Cam Gallery Plug and not the rear oil seal that was letting by.

Now all sorted by Dan at Revingtons

    Unc

The Landrover heater (series 2 I think) is the same as the TR and a good one is nearly as rare!

The Revingtons heater is more powerfull and works very well, I use mine running off the same rheostat as the old heater.

As Neil Revington likes to say 'It gives VFM' rather than being expensive!

  12. Be very very careful when connecting up your heater hoses!!!

One of our guys is just out of Hospital after skin grafts over 2nd degree burns.

A Hose parted company on one of our runs, just as he pulled into services, and badly scalded his legs.

A very upsetting experience for us all!

You have to have the right knob fitted - you know it makes sense!!!

I have just been for a feel of mine and it seems to have raised bits - it also feels rubbery rather than plastic - it also screws!!!

    Seems about right!

Have you fitted an aftermarket fuel filter or is one fitted?

The internal fuel filter mesh can breakdown and cause severe flow restriction. Take the plugs out, disconnect the fuel pipe and stick it in a bottle. Spin her over and you should see big spurts of fuel filling the bottle very quickly!

Very similar symptoms were experienced by a group member in France last year and after various atempts at roadside repairs ended up with a recovery vehicle back to the UK, a head removal and various carb strip downs with what ended up as a £2 filter!

    Check the simple bits first!

    Good luck
