  1. That’s a great help lads, now please excuse my stupidity here but my car is right hand drive so would the plug be on the same side for either left or right hand drive.I can’t get under the car to even see what the plug looks like so I run the risk of looking even MORE daft than I already am

    regards nige

  2. Hi all

i am thinking I may be able to make an inspection cover on my gearbox tunnel for the filler plug but I don’t know where it is without removing the tunnel itself so can anyone tell me it’s approximate position so that I may start cutting the hardboard type stuff the tunnel is made of for the inspection cover location.I hope I am right in thinking the gearbox and overdrive use the same filler hole!as jacking up the car and using stands is rather a faff and hard on the back at my age

    regards nige

  4. Hi all

I am checking out lumpy running and a vague miss when taking up the revs, the car had this problem when purchased last year,(one of the many jobs to do),I am tackling this job with a mechanic friend of mine with little 1972 tr6 experience. The plugs seem to be new NGK BP6 ES But all but 1 and 2 are really sooty! and the points are new. Will be using a dwell angle meter and vacuum gauge and fitting champion N9Y plugs and renewing points, just in case it’s something simple,as I know even less than my friend I was wondering if there were any pointers from the eternal fountain of friendly and patient advice from this forum

regards nige.   stay safe guys nearly there

  5. Morning all

I am trying to start my 72 after copious cleaning of the engine bay over the autumn/winter but to no avail,I only heard it running a short while before buying it last year.I don’t know to much about my 6 YET! but I’m learning with the help of you guys so forgive my ignorance,I have cleaned and dried everything but I don’t hear the fuel pump making a noise and I’m sure it’s supposed to Once you turn on the ignition.I have looked in the boot at what I am thinking must be the pump and there is a white wire and a black wire going into where i assume the pump noise must come from so how can I check this all out please guys, please don’t forget your dealing with a virtual novice here! But a willing learner.

Thanks in anticipation and stay safe were almost there everyone

  6. Hi all

I am fitting an original steering wheel back on my car, having removed the existing wheel I am waiting for a socket to remove the boss that was used for the existing wheel.Looking at what is within the boss there is a white wire (looks like it’s going under the big central nut poss an earth)and another white wire that is fixed to what I think is the bush.My period correct wheel came with the boss and horn push!! I know this is a big ask but can anyone advise me on what to do once I have removed the said boss as far as bits I may need and how to wire everything up please or at least guide me to a good diagram/drawing of how it all goes together

    thanks in anticipation

  7. Hi all

i am going to try and refurbish my dash over the winter but I don’t know how to go about this,as the dash is out and staring at me from the table I,m thinking HOW !!

The wood itself doesn’t look so bad but it is starting to get discoloured around the edges in places,so what wet and dry to use and what varnish or top covering do I use to get the correct slightly dull finish as per original not really shiny.I would be great if someone could list the process if possible as I have never attempted anything like this.

    stay safe

  8. Hi all

i have just taken out the wood dash prior to restoration and notice the oil pressure gauge is dripping oil from the inside, when I took it out I noticed the little gasket (previous advice to another owner about perhaps renewing it When refitting)was somewhat mangled. As I haven’t seen the car running does this mean the gauge is somehow shot or could the oil be leaking in to the gauge somehow passing the gasket. There is a small stain on the bottom of the gauge face where the oil has formed a tiny puddle I think.

  9. Hi all

I want to get to the o/d solenoid,as I have started to strip the seats and carpets how much further do I need to go to unearth the solenoid to visually check the solenoid and wiring for the o/d unit.I hope to be able to expose the top of the o/d unit to see where everything is but don’t know if that’s possible!

  10. Do I remove the above pin as I want to remove the door if so do you just file off the exposed pin between the A post and door edge as it looks to me as though it’s a rivet an d then open the door that little bit wider to give me more access to the door hinge bolts

    stay safe Nige
