  1. I have a 2 speed motor and new lucas wiper and washer switches. I accidently pulled the wiper switch apart but think I have found all the bits and it seems to operate OK now I've put it back together.

I haven't wired anything up yet but tested the switch, which has four terminals at the back, it only seems to connect two of the terminal together in all positions. Is this right, I thought I needed 2 connections to the wiper for fast speed.

    Thanks Eddie

  3. Thanks again everyone and yes I will contact Skinners.

It would have been Jonathan Skinners dad back in 1983.

The original  invoice also included leather wheel arch covers which were £11.75 + VAT (15% in those days). Unfortunately they didn't come with the car so purchased a new set from Skinners this year. They were £135, so about 10x the price  of 38 years ago. If I was still working my salary wouldn't  have been 10x what it was in 83.

    thanks Eddie

  4. I am about to try and fit my soft top. It came with the car and seems to be a canvas type  material. Will it be double duck?

It came from John  Skinner in 1983, cost £55.

Does the same requirement  for warm conditions apply to this material?

There seems to be plenty of instructions/ videos on the Internet. Has anyone got any special tips?

    Thanks

    Eddie

  5. Thanks Stuart,

I figured that might be a solution and tried it. The handle just catches the trim so I have protected with a thin stainless plate for now.

The trim is leather with leather piping so it might be a bit thicker than normal but there can't  be much clearance normally.

  6. Re-fitting seats in my 1970 RHD TR6 after installing carpet and interior trim.

Car doesn't seem wide enough to allow the seats to move far backwards.

Without carpet and trim there wasn't a problem but now if I fit  the seat in it is going to make a mess of the B post trim if I push it back to get a reasonable driving position. The recliner handle is the main problem.

As far as I know the seats are original , I am only 5' 11" , so that should not be a problem. I have googled it and not found that anyone else has had the same problem. I suppose my next step is to strip the carpet etc off the prop shaft tunnel and see how much better it is then.

Has anyone on here had a similar problem?

    Thanks Eddie

  7. Thanks for the reply, I  thought it was a cheap copy.

It looks like I could get a Y piece to connect to a twin pipe system.

I currently have a US head but this will fit the UK fast road head I am about to get and hopefully add a bit more power to the US engine.

    Thanks again  Eddie

  8. Thanks everyone  for the replies.

The only markings on the alternator apart from  LUCAS is a sticker saying remanufactured in Japan.

I have taken the plastic cover off and attach a picture.

The closest I have found on the Internet  is 18ACR on an MG with a note to ignore the offset terminal.

Unless someone comes up with a different idea I will  wire up like that .

    Thanks Eddie

  9. Unfortunately my paint guy has let me down and said the stripes are to complicated.

Have seen silver stripes on ebay for £7.99 and seller will adjust to suit TR250 sizes.

So will have a go with these and see what it like.

  10. I am trying to identify my gearbox, overdrive in order to get the correct speedo connector.

Unfortunately the size of photgraph of the overdrive was too large and not loaded and the overdrive plate is not clear because location made it difficult to photograph.

I have bought a standard TR angle drive connection and it doesn't fit the overdrive output  which is shown in the photo.

I thought it was a saloon gearbox and J type overdrive. The input shaft is smaller than a TR5/6.

I bought the angled drive from James Paddock who might be able to help but I wondered if any here knows of a different drive.

    Thanks Eddie

  11. Peter Burgess is now doing a head for me but he has had it since last year To be fair I told him I was in no hurry. He does take a while to reply to emails.

He did an mgb head for me several years ago and I am very happy with it.

  12. Do I need to buy the fitting kits from one of the dealers at a cost of around £60 for the four wings or can I buy the ACME screws and spire nuts elsewhere?

The Moss spares book shows the screws with conventional heads but I understand that some of the front are countersunk. I can't find the countersunk ACME screws other than at dealers.

    Thanks Eddie
