  1. Thanks for the link Roger, quite a bit better on price, only problem is they are listed as out of stock.

I might try some epoxy and a grub screw and see if I can't secure the new knob to the current cable.

  2. My car currently has a written style choke knob, I've replaced all the other knobs and want to put this back to a picture type (1970 CP). When I removed the written type I realise the choke cable is different.

I went to the usual suppliers and nearly spat out my tea at the price of a new cable!

Is there a way of securing the picture knob to my current cable? Or does anyone know where I can obtain a more reasonably priced earlier cable or have a second hand one?

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for posting, I really like the 165's totally transforms the car, the 195's look so over tyred to me, and they are ever so slightly less diameter than the 165's, so that will make a difference to the look and stance, imagine how different mine will look coming from a 205/60 15!! :o

    Gareth,

I've been in touch with a couple of local spring makers and I can get all 4 coils reset for NZ$250 (around 125 quid), which is a bargain compared to purchasing aftermarket items. Powder coating is extra as is removing the old coating by sand blasting prior to the resetting.

One of the benefits of resetting is that the spring rate doesn't change, which suits me as the new gas shocks have add extra springing anyway.

I'll probably leave this job until our winter (your summer).  In the meantime, I need to figure out lever ratios etc so that I can give engineers the new free length required.

Does anyone have this info already?

    Gavin

Nice idea, I like the fact that the spring rate doesn't change. Enjoy your summer, it's very wet here right now, definitely not convertible weather!

  5. I'm going for 165 x15's for my next tyre, I think the look of the car is also important and feel low profile wider tyres change the look of the car, not necessarily in a good way for me.

The range of tyres sizes available for a UK car (depending on width of the wheel) is usually 165 x15 (165/80 15), 185/70 15, 195/65 15 & 205/65 15, these will all be close in diameter (height) to the original 165 x 15. I've currently got some 6 inch wheels with 205/60 15's, they don't look right, too low and too wide, I want to go back to skinny and tall!

  6. I think you'll need to go to a paint supplier that can scan your car and then produce a can with that unique mix to match the current condition of the paint. I'm sure I saw a discussion on here about this very subject.

    Hi All,

Getting there with the engine bay sorting. Problem is, the Rimmer paint is darker than the paint on the outside of the car, although it has come out the same as the engine bay colour before I started. Is this just fading of the paint on the outer panels ? or have I done something wrong ? Please see attached pics.

    Thanks.

    Mark.

How much older is the outside paint? And is the can matched to your car (via analysis) or just the same colour code? What about the primer used? There are loads of reasons why it appears darker, the only true way to get it the same is spray the outside at the same time from the same paint. The good thing is its not like a front wing next to the door that are different shades, do you think you can live with it? It's a great job though.

  8. I've just noticed your mirrors are mounted quite far forward on the doors, I want to change my bullet type to the ones like yours, but thought as mine had been mounted really forward it might not work, I think I should give it a try now
