  1. Personally I feel that giving Max the "nothing wrong" verdict simply encourages bad behaviour for all drivers.

A summons to the stewards after the race with the threat of a grid penalty next time out would have left all drivers with a clear message, and have caused Max to consider his actions before the stewards. Even if no penalty had been given the message would have been sent that actions likley to cause an accident would be frowned on.

  2. Under no circumstances would I ignore the letter. I would respond keeping copies of everything perhaps recorded delivery. You can then demonstrate at a later date that you did everything you could to resolve the situation.

Many of these penaties are automated, does the policy holders name exactly match the car owners name? Not Kathy on one and Katherine on the other for example. Similarly the address does it match exactly?

At the same time launch a complaint at

    https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/driver-and-vehicle-licensing-agency/about/complaints-procedure

They should respond quickly and again you can at a later date demonstrate that you did everything you could.

Since Covid HMRC and DVLA to name but two are struggling to keep their heads above water with delays of months in the system.

  3. Peter,

No point in building infrastructure if we keep the door open to uncontrolled migration particularly from countries turning uninhabitable.. With rapid UK population growth no infrastrucure will cope.

We posibly need to consider building infrastrucure in at-risk third world countries to reduce the drive to migrate, difficult task with the amount of corruption in many of those countries.

  4. Rod,

Really sorry to hear of your troubles.

Where did the brigade pump the water to? Is it possible that you can excavate a sump in your garden and install a pump to keep the water under control if it happens again. I use a 3" pump around my place and it can shift large quantities of water, ok not to the extent of a brigade system but if you can start early enough it might mitigate the amount of water on your property. A couple of hundred pounds for a pump and another hundred for the discharge pipe.

Is it possible to redesign your garden to divert any water ingress around the house and away, obviously depends on the fall of the land?

Can you make some small plates to blank off any airbricks around the house and fit channels at either side of the external doorways to take a drop-in board and seal off the door? Just a few pounds.

and OK it is not your responsibility but if the council wont do it can you not buy a set of drain rods and keep the drain clear, after all it is in your interest to do so?

  5. Our house is built of sandstone walls about 500mm thick, The interior of each room has a poly membrane against the outerwalls with a 75mm studding frame fastened floor to ceiling joists filled with 75mm fibreglass insulation and plaster boarded & skimmed over.  We have never had (20 years) any evidence of internal condensation, damp patches etc. It performs very well.

  6. I have quite a few bits of kit, a couple of chain saws, three mowers, strimers, pole saw. Recently I have started adding the TR's Duckhams additive to the fuel as well as the 2 stroke mixer. It may be a coincidence but they all seem to start easier than without. My guess is that it leaves the plug in better condition for the next restart, and the fuel is not supposed to go off as quickly.

  7. Adrian,

Apologies if it has been mentioned above but I could not see mention. Tyres have you looked at the age of the tyres? The dot codes. I just wondered if you have a  single aged tyre on the front - irrespective of pressures etc.

My experience, II had minor handling issues with my car, it seemed to be different on RH corners but had to tell on the varying UK pot holed roads. I had my car corner weighed - cost me £25. There was a significant difference it the front wheels, as I recall about 50 lb.  The car was like a wobbly pub table (without optional beer mat under leg). Working out the poundage of the springs. 50 lb  equated to about 3mm. A 3 mm shim was fitted and the front weights were even. Afterwards the car was different, perhaps I imagined it, but cornering seemed more even, more like running on rails than previously.

Not suggesting you rush off to have it done, but perhaps when you have sorted every other thing out it might be another avenue.

  8. TR6 has the brakes in diagonal pairs front left and right rear etc.

Your first post refers to a replacing master cylinder. That is a terrible way to diagnose a fault at the first stage. After a fault appears when you have carried out some work always, always retrace your steps and systematically work your way through the system.

If you have badly adjusted the rears then yes the pedal may hit the floor before the travel in the slave cylinders is taken up.

Handbrake cable off, tighten the rear adjusters until the rear brakes bind, is there pedal pressure now?

If so back off adjusters 1/4 turn until wheel just binds slightly. Then back in car and press pedal very hard to centralise the shoes. Then back to set final adjustment on rears. Then fit and adjust handbrake cable to both sides.
