  1. Ralph,

Well mine does not leak a drop. You must have a gap along the edge somewhere. Does the roof clamp down hard or is it a loose fit?  Is the chrome strip sealed to the windscreen frame or can water get underneath and into the car?

Perhaps lay a piece of ribbon 1"'ish wide on the top of the screen, close the roof and  try and pull the ribbon out. Work your way along the windscreen to determine if there are any loose spots where water can enter. Water is notorious for entering at one point and working its way around before appearing somewhere else.

  2. "Alan, going to try that now - but won't running it dry cause bigger issues?"

Yes if its "dry" that will be an issue, but what if its only, say,  85% of flow, that would be Ok on part throttle but weak mixture on full throttle.

So  whether there were other issues it would depend on your driving style and what you expected from the car.

Remember the pump is constant speed /output even at tickover it  needs to supply enough fuel to meet the pressure and volume (or more) needed by the injectors at fulll throttle, maximum revs. If the required fuel is less than the output the PRV should recycle the excess pumped fuel back to the tank to maintain the pressure. Unfortunately it is difficult to monitor the fuel pressure supplied to the metering unit whilst driving which would indicate a healthy fuel system. Fitting an electronic  pressure sender and gauge in the circuit is a little excessive just as a diagnostic tool.

Remember that although the pumps have a high pressure output they have little suction to draw fuel yet the flow requirements, which I forget, are about a couple of hundred litres per hour, As the plumbing, particularly the tank connector which is very small bore, condition is vital as anything less than free flowing leads to cavitation as the pump struggles to maintain pressure.

Incidently if you check the wiring do not omit to check the earth, which if using the original wiring on the black loom wires terminated on a 3.5mm connector in the boot immediatly adjacent to the near side  rear light cluster behind the trim and is not wonderfull for the higher power drawn by Bosch pumps.

  3. Caution, ensure it is secure. Once I had a similar arrangement and I found that with the windows wound down the shape of the dashboard guides any loose object across the car and out of the window on right hand bends.

  4. Owen,

I would turn ignition on check there is 12 v being supplied from the key at the inertia cut out. If no voltage then key looks likely, if 12v is present then most likely dirty contacts in cutout switch.

A modern car fuse connects nicely in the two spade connectors to bypass the inertia switch as a test.

  5. I had a set of tyres crack on a Ford focus after about 8 months, Goodyears. I went straight to the manufacturer who wanted photos first then the tyres back. They gave me a 100% refund even though the tyres had done about 10k miles. The dealer who replaced them said if I had taken the car to them first would have only offered a percentage due to wear. So my experience is the manufacturers were the route to go, they seemed genuinely interested that the compound was failing so soon.
