Geoffrey
understand your thinking and difficult to be definitive.
You could test the antifreeze content of the fluid in the system if there is antifreeze then corrosion is less likely
If there is just water then you might look further and a starting point would be the radiator
How far you wish to go is up to you and the seller, think for me if there is antifreeze in the system and it’s the car you want then I’d buy it.
Are you in the Register and do you attend your local group
This is a classic case where that could be a great help for you, take a local who knows our cars- second pair of eyes etc.

Hi Geoffrey,
back to you original question.
No, the heater matrix should have no implications for the engine.
It is a difficult job fiddly rather than technical, and you certainly want at least £500 off the price of the car.
If you go ahead and buy the car, and then are doing the swop yourself, then I would consider one of the more modern ,
non original, (Well out of site once fitted) but less expensive and more efficient units such as this one from car builder solutions;-
5.2KW CAR HEATER KIT 278MM
Others on here have fitted items such as this, and I'm sure will be along to advise.

Hi there,
If I might be permitted to join in....I have a TR5. My car is fitted with 2005 BF Goodrich Profiler 2 tyres and I am planning to replace them for the reasons given here. The size is 195/65 R15 and I find the steering heavy at low speed. I have been advised to switch to 185/70 R15 tyres to improve this. I am looking at Blockley tyres. Has anyone had any experience of these? Also, legally, do I need to change the spare wheel tyre to 185/70 R15 or can it stay at 195/65 R15?
Thanks
Denis
You can leave the spare at !95, as long as you leave it in the boot, the minute you fit it to the car,
then yes thats illegal. Many cars these days do run smaller profile spares, many discussions here, and the excuse is always sited
that modern Space saver tyres are OK. Its not the same argument, but you could always ask your insurer.

John’s buck takes the biscuit I think but here’s a piece I made for my TR6 using a hand made hammer form die. Further to Iain’s point anyone wants a loan they’re more than welcome and fair warning the reproduction part is only £130, don’t know what that makes me, nuts I suppose, but it’s good practice for the pieces that can’t be bought.
Lovely work there pal. I'm thinking we met at spares day last year?
truth is I find this bodywork stuff quite theraputic - guess we are similar?

That’s a very useful resource for other restorers.
Perhaps it’s time for a “Tools Loan” post, if people are prepared to share? It would save a lot of time for others and stop the: having to reinvent the wheel.Think that’s absolutely correct Iain - certainly won’t be chopping anything up when done

Just so Richard,

Another alternative, from Dennis Welch Motorsport,
seen this on a car and this also works well.
WORKS TYPE GEAR LEVER KNOB
This Gear Lever Knob is made in aluminium and have a built-in switch to control the overdrive. This enables you to change gear and operate the overdrive all with one hand.

anti-glare night driving glasses
in General TR Technical
Posted
Interesting Thread this.
Personally I wouldn't leave home without mine, and I have a pair in each car.
I regularly drive the A66 Scotch Corner to Penrith. If you are unlucky enough to meet a HGV climbing out of the Warcop dip, at night, in the rain,
and this HGV will normally be followed by a stream of other vehicle it has slowed, then you are in real trouble of not being able to see properly.
These night glasses, popped over my ordinary perscription driving glasses solve this.
I endorse everything written here about modern headlights, but can't see much likely hood of a see-change here, without real positive govenment will.
One tip I used for years, and this was against oncoming vehicles on full-beam, was to as the vehicle approached, to close one eye, then immediately it passed open that eye and close the other, that did work, in preventing being dazzled.
