Hi Chris,

It sounds like you may have one of the "reproduction" switches.

An original Lucas switches would be clearly marked with part numbers and the Lucar / spade connector numbers.

Below is the back of an original switch, not a great photo, but I think you can just about make out the marking :

Top left is 1.

Next right is 4.

Lower right is 6

Bottom left is 7.

Bottom right is 8.

Your wiring should be connected as follows :

No. 4 - Brown / Blue ( N/U )

No. 7 - Red / Green ( R/G )

No. 8 - Blue ( U )

In respect of the brake light switch, I assume it the small type with three Lucar / spade connectors :

Single left is common - connect Blue ( U ) single cable

Top right - connect Blue / Red ( U/R ) single cable for Dipped Beam

Bottom right - connect Blue / White ( U/W ) twin cable for High Beam and High Beam Warning Light

Hope this helps.

Regards, Richard

hi Richard many thanks for this detailed reply I have removed the light switch and after a clean could see the numbers you show in the picture the only difference is the dip I have the large type (tr3 or early 4 ) spades all in a line but I am sure when the light switch is wired right the dip will be process of elimination . famous last words regards chris
