WHARFEDALE GROUP DRIVE IT DAY 22nd APRIL

Drive it Day Sunday 22nd April. It had been previously suggested that Groups in adjoining areas could meet up at a reasonably common location. Mike Sloan had been in touch with East Riding & Cleveland Groups and the suggestion was to meet up at Fountains Abbey near Ripon around lunch time.

The Wharfedale Group all met up at Stephen Smiths Garden Centre near Otley on what turned out to be a dreary wet Sunday morning. We left the Garden Centre around 11.45, and fortunately on the way to the Abbey it stopped raining and the rest of the day was fine and bright if a bit cool.

It's many years since Linda and I visited Fountains Abbey, and we had forgotten what a great place and location it is. Truly spectacular. The grounds and Park area are also fantastic with many walks available, and that's what we did after a spot of lunch and the obligatory look in the shop, wandering through the ruins and into the park area.

For us it was a fairly short but enjoyable drive out, to a great location.
