As we wind down from another year, I thought I would reflect on the group’s activities. Starting in May. A trip to Irland organised by group leader Dave Wiltshire saw 5 couples set off, though it wasn’t all TR’s, a Stag and Honda S2000. A successful 5 day event though there was one that did carry the brunt of rough rd surfaces encountered on the trip with another reportedly being able to fly.
Upon returning from Irland, the next event, Vale of Glamorgan Classic Car Show an event we support every year with a strong turn out from the group. This year being very well attended with some nice, presented TR’s. Last year saw Neil making top three for car of the show. This year again we had success with Tony taking first place with his Triumph but not his TR5 but a very nice Triumph Tiger 1962 100ss.
This year was also the year Dave completed a ground up restoration of his TR7 V8 an excellent job one that will produce a trophy someday, I am sure. A car to be seen, maybe at next years international. Talking of the international, in August the group headed up to the international with some of us having entered various categories myself in the modified TR6 others having a much better result, Tony again coming first in his category this time with his TR5 and again Neil runner up in his category.
September was a month for some long-distance touring. Myself in the now newly modified EFI TR6 and Tony in his TR5, a round trip of 2754 miles taking in Dunkirk Ghent, Arlon, Stuttgart, 4days in Austria then back through Lake Lucerne, Colmar, Belgium and then the shuttle back to the UK. Peter who was equally adventurous set out on a separate trip to Spain Picos mountain region and going by the pictures enjoyed a nice trip, one to do some time.
Next year’s annual group outing is already booked, which promises to be an enjoyable event. A trip to Laon and Brugges with maybe squeezing a UK small tour somewhere along the line. We always welcome new faces and members to our monthly club meeting, it’s not always for everyone but you don’t know unless you come along.
