South Glam Group travel to Telford and a vist to Ironbridge

Following on the success of the recent trip to the Pembroke car rally, the Magnificent 7 set off for the Bad Lands, or more commonly known as Cheshire. A Stag, TR4 , TR5 and a TR6 cunningly disguised as a Mazda MX5 ( or it might be that the TR upgrades from a Mazda have been taken one step too far ) . Our trip including routes, stays and excursions had all been carefully planned by Neil and Paula Jarrett. We kept to A roads to give us some stunning views as travelled through Hereford, Ludlow to Tarporley where our first nights rest was at a very pleasant Spa retreat. The following day was a quieter plan with a short hop to the historic town of Chester for some retail therapy. Basically somebody who will remain nameless had forgotten to pack some evening shirts. The Roman walls provide a lovely viewing platform and a chance to notch up those pedometers step counts. We then departed south to Telford to our next hotel, hastily rearranged due to our planed stay being requisitioned by the government. For what reason we can only guess. The following day’s excursion was to the historic town of Ironbridge. Unfortunately, we couldn’t arrange the cars to be in a line up with the bridge as the backdrop so we had to settle for second best.

That evening we attended an excellent restaurant named 1840, the food was excellent and thoroughly recommended if you are staying in Telford. The following day was spent at the Blists Hill Victorian Town which encapsulates the changes seen during the explosion of the industrial age, from a working steam replica of Trevithick locomotive to a singalong in a Victorian pub and a huge range of period shops and workshops with demonstrations of crafts and work practices of the time. It was a really great day out with loads to see and experience. Our drive home led us to Brecon where we stopped for lunch before a beautiful drive across the beacons.

Two birthdays were celebrated on this trip and amazingly Paula had managed to squirrel away two full size birthday cakes in their TR4 ! which arrived in perfect condition. How they manged it I’ll never know. But thanks again to Paula and Neil in their efforts in making this a special and successful trip all round. Finally I must report all cars performed perfectly without any hiccup or repairs required.
