Red Rose Group - Drive It Day 2023
TR Register members are invited to join Red Rose Group for this year’s Drive It Day on Sunday 23rd April 2023.
We are planning a visit to Jodrell Bank followed by a run and pub meal.
Humans have always looked up at the skies and marveled at the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars, to understand our own sense of place and purpose, here on Earth. For over 75 years, Jodrell Bank has been at the forefront of that quest for understanding and at the heart of ground breaking discoveries and world-leading research.
Jodrell Bank’s inspirational story includes revolutionary scientific discoveries, amazing feats of engineering, the dawn of the Space Age and the creation of the Grade I listed Lovell Telescope, an icon for science and engineering. Today Jodrell Bank Observatory is owned and managed by the University of Manchester and is a world-leading science research institute, with scientists working at the cutting edge of modern astrophysics. In 2019 Jodrell Bank was recognised as a site of Outstanding Universal Value and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
We will be meeting at Jodrell Bank telescope at 10.30 to explore the features and displays. Parking costs £4 in addition to entry to the site but if pre-paid through web booking the ticket is valid for 12 months. Tickets for entry to Jodrell Bank are £12 for adults and £10 for concessions.
John Leleu who has very kindly organised this visit has suggested we start the run at about 12.30. from outside the carpark. It will be an 80 mile -ish trip through the Stafford and Derbyshire Dales, ending at The George and Dragon pub in Holmes Chapel.
There are no limits on numbers for visiting Jodrell Bank or on the run afterwards however places for the meal are limited. A provisional booking for a meal for 20 people at 4pm has been made but they would obviously like actual numbers and, if possible, pre-orders. The tables will be ours until 7pm.
John has asked if you can please confirm your attendance with him via email john@leleu.plus.com and state if you would like to be included on the meal. Places for the meal will be on a first come first served basis. Once John has confirmed with you, he will then contact you to get your menu choices.
