Red Rose Bulletin - March 2023

Red Rose Bulletin - March 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to the first bulletin of Spring!

The days are getting longer, the sun is getting warmer and the daffodils are coming out! Although if Facebook is to be believed we are in for snow next week! Let’s hope not!

FEBRUARY ROUND UP

THE ANNUAL EVENTS MEETING

Despite the change of date our annual events meeting was very well attended. We even had to bring in extra tables and chairs! There was a lot to get through but we now have a packed and exciting programme of events for the year ahead with something for everyone.

MEETING DATES

All Antrobus meeting dates for the year have now been confirmed and can be found in the events list which has been sent out to all members who have provided a current email address. It is also available to view on the Facebook page and on The TR Resister website on the Red Rose page.

Despite the reopening of our previous venue, we shall be staying in our current location.

Some meeting dates have had to be moved for various reasons and some meetings will be chaired by different members of the club (see events list).

We have also recruited a team of volunteers to organise our post meeting runs.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to chair a meeting or organise a run this year it is very much appreciated.

We would also like to thank each and every person who comes to our monthly meetings or attends events during the year particularly those members who don’t live locally. We must be doing something right! Or is it just the scouse banter that keeps them coming back?

TR REGISTER GRANT

We now have a table and some cooking equipment to use along side our gazebo at car shows and events and we are now looking for ideas to spend this year’s grant on.

We did look into purchasing a hot water urn but they are out of our budget and the size would also be an issue. A kettle has been suggested instead. Much easier to fit in a TR!

Another idea is to have some club regalia such as caps and fleeces with the Red Rose logo on.

If you have any thoughts or ideas then please get in touch.

“KEEPING THE SPARK ALIVE”

The next item on the agenda was the upcoming group leaders meeting on 11th March.

Jonathan had collated the information that was sent to him to present to the group and a healthy discussion ensued!

A strategic plan has been put in place to make changes to the club as a whole so we can all move forward into the future. Some of the main points for discussion and up for change are: the brand, merchandising, club headquarters and the proposed new management structure.

Jonathan would like your views on this and we would ask that you please email your responses to us no later than Sunday 5th March in order for us to collate all the replies which Jonathan will then present at the GL meeting in his own unique style while I kick him under the table to stop him going too far!

RED ROSE EVENTS CALENDAR

We then moved on to the events for the year and I am sure you will agree there are a lot to choose from. There is something going on almost every weekend from now till the end of the year. If you have anything you would like to add, email us.

We rounded off the meeting with an update for those going on the Llanerchindda Farm trip (more details to follow) and our usual raffle.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Here are details of some of the main ones. If you need more information on any of the events, please email us.

DRIVE IT DAY SUNDAY 23RD April

This year John and Jane Leleu have very kindly offered to do a Drive It Day run and visit to Jodrell Bank. Plans are very much underway and John has suggested a meet up at Blakemere followed by a run to Jodrell Bank were there will be a tour followed by a pub lunch. We will send out further details as soon as they are confirmed.

I have spoken to Rupert and Red Rose can once again have a club stand and our gazebo. The cost is £5 per person.

Richard Chandler has offered to do a run to Bodnant Gardens again this year to see the wonderful Laburnum Arch. If you would be interested in attending, can you please email us in the first instance and we will pass on your details to Richard who will then contact you with further details if he gets enough interest.

BIG BOYS BREAKFAST, CLASSIC CAR RUN AND RED ROSE MEETING 11TH JUNE

Once again, we have decided to combine our June meeting with this very popular event and for the first time since 2019 the breakfast in the village hall is back!

If you haven’t been before its well worth it! The day starts with the breakfast followed by a run and then a meet up back at the village hall. There is an option to have a pub lunch or to have a picnic back at the village hall on the grass where we will have an informal meeting.

This is the email we have received from the organisers.

We have started to plan this year's Run-on Sunday June 11. More details will follow but this is an early warning regarding lunch!

The format will be back to the pre Covid event. The Big Boys Breakfast Team will once again be providing breakfast at Antrobus Village Hall from 8am to 10am. I will send out a booking form for this in a while. The prices will be:

Driver on Run plus breakfast £12

Extra adult breakfast £9

Extra child breakfast £4.50

The run will take roughly 2.5 hrs, depending on your speed and ability to follow the steps (!!), to reach The Morris Dancer at Kelsall. This is a large Brunning and Price pub, in the same group as The Sutton Arms. If you wish to stop for lunch there, details are below or you can simply follow the remaining instructions back to Antrobus Village Hall and picnic outside there.

We have visited the pub - it has a large car park and is more open than The Sutton Arms. They can seat a large number of people inside and there are outside tables. But it is ESSENTIAL to book, which you can do online on their website. Sunday is their busiest day and if you don't book, they are unlikely to be able to accommodate you. They tell us that they get booked up early, hence our writing to you now!

You will book using their online system, which will spread the bookings out over a period to give the kitchen enough time. So, you may wish to sprint and book at 12.30 or have a later start and more leisurely drive, perhaps stopping midway for a coffee, and take a later lunch booking.

Please do pass on details of the event to any friends with classics - it will be so good to get back to our pre Covid numbers!

I'll be in touch in a while once we have sorted out forms and the Breakfast details. This year we will be supporting Antrobus Village's fundraising for Ukraine.

With Best Wishes

Susan and Graham

LYMM TRANSPORT FESTIVAL SUNDAY 25TH JUNE

John and Anne Thorp have booked spaces for 12 cars for the club this year and there are now only three remaining so don’t delay!

If you are interested in attending, please email us and it will be first come first served! This is a popular event and so much more than a static car show with lots going on in the village and by the canal as well as on the main field.
