Red Rose Bulletin - November 2022

Red Rose Bulletin - November 2022

Hello everyone,

It’s that time again! We are racing towards the end of the year; Christmas is in sight and we are all probably already planning next year’s calendar and thinking about what jobs need doing on the TR’S over the Winter.

CHRISTMAS MEAL UPDATE

The Christmas meal is now fully booked!

We are very sorry but please note that unless you are booked on for the meal you won’t be able to sit and eat with us at the December meeting as space is very limited and all food has to be pre ordered.

If you want to call in for a drink and come and say hello you are more than welcome.

For those who are attending we shall be handing out place cards on arrival with your name and menu choices on so hopefully there won’t be a repeat of the great turkey and dessert thefts of 2021!

OCTOBER ROUND UP

MEETING CHANGE OF VENUE!

We had a very last-minute and unexpected change of venue for our October meeting! On the Friday evening I received a phone call from one of our members letting me know that The Cock at Budworth appeared to be closed!

After getting no answer from them after numerous telephone calls the decision was made to contact The Antrobus Arms and the meeting was subsequently moved. Emails and Facebook posts were done and, on the Sunday, we taped a note to the door of the Cock at Budworth (which incidentally was still closed!) advising of the change of location.

We have now made the decision to move our monthly meetings to The Antrobus Arms for the foreseeable future and they are very happy to have us.

The side room which is an open plan version of the room we used to use works well as a space as it is separate from the rest of the pub but if we get a busy meeting it could be a little tight!

The maximum they can comfortably seat for food is 36 however they do have lots of chairs so it could be that if we are running out of space and if you are not eating you might have to sit in the cheap seats at the back!

I have emailed the owners of The Cock at Budworth informing them of our decision to move and the reasons for it but as yet have not had a reply! The pub remains closed and I suspect it will not be opening again which is very sad as until recently it has worked very well for us.

OCTOBER MEETING

Despite the last minute changes the meeting was a big success and everyone agreed the food and service were excellent. The food is a little more expensive but of a much higher quality and there are sandwich options which were very popular!

It was lovely to see Audrey and Clifford Foster and Dave Roberts at the meeting as we haven’t seen them for some time.

We had our usual updates on upcoming events from Jonathan which included club events for next year and also TR Register events that have been planned. Dates for these events are at the end of the bulletin and for further information on TR Register events please visit the Website. Any Red Rose event updates will be sent via email or posted on the Facebook page and Register website.

We also discussed ideas of what to buy with the money we are allocated each year as a club by The TR Register.

As we now have a new Gazebo Jonathan has suggested we purchase some large catering sized hot water flasks and a camping stove so we can do hot drinks and bacon barms at events such as Tatton, Oulton Park and Gawsworth. He never actually mentioned who would be doing the cooking but he was looking in my direction! So, I guess it’s me! This idea was met by approval in the room but we would like everyone’s thoughts on this so please email us if you have any ideas.

We then had a surprise announcement from Bob Eccles. Bob has made the decision to stand down as area director for the TR Register from next year.

On behalf of Red Rose, I would like to thank Bob for everything he has done for us and the register as a whole. Being in any leadership role can be a thankless task sometimes and I am sure Bob won’t miss the endless trips to Didcot. He’s not leaving us all together though he will still be a regular at our meetings.

The meeting came to a close with our usual raffle and we are looking forward to returning this month for the Quiz.

COAST TO COAST

We all had a wonderful time on this trip kindly organised by Bob. The first night we stayed in the very quirky Guys Thatched Hamlet, great value for money and perfect for a car club. We all enjoyed a meal together before heading off to our interesting accommodation and after a good night’s sleep followed by a hearty breakfast, we were all ready for the journey to Whitby the next day.

Jonathan had plotted our journey into the SAT NAV and took us on a very impressive route which had some stunning scenery with a lunch stop at the pub were James Herriot spent his honeymoon night. We managed to send the poor waitress into a near melt down but after some lovely sandwiches we set off again and finally reached Dunsley Hall in time for a quick freshen up before drinks and dinner.

The following day some headed for home and some moved onto another destination while the rest enjoyed another day and night in Whitby and the surrounding area, oh to be retired!

It was a weekend full of laughter in the company of good friends! Already looking forward to the next one!

Saltburn By The Sea. A water operated lift and a little train. Men heaven!

The harbour town of Whitby which was the inspiration for Dracula!

Look Familiar!

Some of our members went to a car show at The Three Counties Show ground in? Yes, you’ve guessed it Malvern! Think the hills gave it away!
