Red Rose Bulletin - October 2022

Red Rose Bulletin - October 2022

Hello everyone,

How can it be October already! September went so fast!

The death of the Queen and suddenly having a King doesn’t seem quite real yet.

We are living through unprecedented and uncertain times but as ever at Red Rose there is still lots going on and to look forward to.

SEPTEMBER ROUND UP

SEPTEMBER MEETING

We weren’t expecting a big turn out for our September meeting due to quite a few members being off on their jollies in France and various other places but we were pleasantly surprised! We had a pretty good turnout but as we had expected low numbers Jonathan hadn’t even done an agenda! He still managed to get up and talk though in his own unique style!

It was lovely to see our newly weds Chris and Lynne and we also had a very special birthday to celebrate with Keith Baddeley. 70 years young!

There were some updates on forthcoming events one being where to hold the Christmas lunch. It was put to the vote and it was decided not to hold it at our current venue. I have provisionally booked the Antrobus Arms (for more details please read the bulletin till the end!) You know you want to!

Classic Le Mans was discussed and is still on the agenda and there will be an update on that shortly.

We finished off with our usual raffle organised as ever by the lovely Pauline and Mike and then set out to repeat the run from the previous meeting when the weather had been too hot for some to attend.

After a lovely drive to the Swettenham Arms we sat in the garden and had drinks and food in great company before heading home.

5 TR’S ON TOUR IN FRANCE

5 cars and 10 intrepid travellers set out on the trip to France all organised by the wonderful Ann and John Thorp. Sian kept us all updated with regular Facebook posts and photos and I must say they certainly looked like they were having a wonderful time visiting some lovely places including Chartres, Vementon, Orleans and Chablis.

Meanwhile in another part of France Martin and Lynn Hill have also been on tour with another group of TRs.

TRS looking very impressive outside the hotel in Fontevraud Loire Valley.

BODRHYDDAN HALL CLASSIS CAR SHOW

A few Red Rose members made the trip to Wales for this car show and Dawn and Peter managed to recruit two new members! Welcome Peter and Maria Moorhouse and their lovely TR6.

We also have another new member on our Facebook group. Welcome to Les Parry.

Hope to see you all very soon at a meeting or event (in fact we will be seeing two of you very soon!).

WALLED TOWNS RUN

A few Red Rose members attended this very popular and well organised event taking in the walled towns of Conwy, Beaumaris and Caernarfon. Can you spot Billy Taylor in his red TR6 with Andrew Heywood in the background and Conrad Rafique out of shot but definitely there along with their navigators.

COMING UP

COAST TO COAST TRIP

For all those going on the Coast-to-Coast trip this weekend we look forward to seeing you all at Guys Thatched Hamlet on Friday night. Bob has arranged for us to all have a meal together on both the Friday and Saturday night when we will be at Dunsley Hall. He has also planned a route for Saturday. Peter and Maria Moorhouse have taken over Mike and Pauline’s booking and as our newest members I am sure we will all make them very welcome. I just hope a weekend away with us lot doesn’t put them off!

TR REGISTER MEETING

As some of you may have seen on the forum the TR Register is holding a Group Leaders meeting on Sunday 6th November to discuss the future with the International likely to be a hot topic for debate.

Jonathan and I will both be attending so if you have any questions, you would like us to ask or anything you would like us to bring up with the management team, please don’t hesitate to email us.

THE RED ROSE ANNUAL QUIZ SUNDAY 13TH NOVEMBER

I am delighted to inform you all that once again our quiz master David Rhodes will be hosting this years much anticipated quiz. It will take place alongside our November meeting and for those who haven’t experienced it before I can assure you its an event not to be missed! It’s always extremely popular despite being fiendishly difficult so make sure to arrive early to stake your place. We have some very competitive quizzers here at Red Rose and whilst I have no prior knowledge of the questions its safe to say there will be at least one relating to George Formby!

CHRISTMAS MEETING AND LUNCH SUNDAY 11TH DECEMBER

As mentioned previously it was decided to have our Christmas lunch at the Antrobus Arms this year. I have provisionally booked the side room but places are limited to 40 people. It will be on a strictly first come first served basis and I will need a £5.00 none refundable deposit per person before I can confirm your place with the pub as they need this as soon as I confirm exact numbers.

The cost for the lunch will be £25.00 for 2 courses and £32.50 for 3 courses (additional supplement of £3 for the duck dish).

The prices are a little high but are comparable to other venues serving food of a similar quality.

I have attached a copy of the Festive Fayre menu with this bulletin and if you would like to go then please confirm by email and give me your name and menu choices. We will be collecting deposits at the next meeting or we can arrange for you to pay by bank transfer.

OCTOBER MEETING

Our meeting this month will be on Sunday 16th October. The decision was made earlier in the year to move it due to the Coast-to-Coast trip taking place the week before. We are hoping to do a post meeting run but are awaiting confirmation on the proposed destination and will post details as soon as we have them.
