Red Rose Bulletin - August 2022

Red Rose Bulletin - August 2022

Hello everyone,

As is tradition I will start with the good old British weather! A very mixed bag for July indeed, temperatures hotter than the Sahara followed by rain, rain and more rain! As TR owners we don’t worry about the weather though and there’s still lots to report on.

JULY ROUND UP

Before I go further, I have a very important announcement!

THE TR INTERNATIONAL WEEKEND HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

By now you probably all know this but for any members that don’t, this announcement was made via the TR Register website on Wednesday and since then there have been further updates and explanations for why this event has been cancelled. None of which are very satisfactory!

I am sure like us you were all very shocked, and disappointed to hear this totally unexpected news.

I can assure all Red Rose members that we knew nothing about this and had received no communication from the TR Register advising us of the impending situation.

In light of this cancellation many of you will be looking for an alternative event for that weekend. Bernard Hayward contacted the organizers of Tatton car show in the hope that we could have a stand there but unfortunately, they were all taken.

You can still apply as a private entry but applying does not guarantee you a ticket https://www.mortonsevents.co.uk/

There is also another option!

For up-to-date details refer to the TR Register Website.

JULY MEETING

Numbers were low for this meeting due to a number of us being away at various events but thanks to John Leleu stepping in the meeting went ahead as planned.

As you are aware the Cock @ Budworth now has a new Landlord and manager and some changes have been made that not everyone is entirely happy with.

Based on the comments we have been getting back the food seems to be the main issue, mainly the lack of choice and the price.

With this in mind we have been following up on some suggestions as to possible alternative venues for our monthly meetings.

One is the Smoker but we feel that it is just that bit too far for people to travel.

Another was The Coachman and whilst the Landlady was very keen for us to be there the room on offer was far too small and like our current venue, they only offer mainly roasts on a Sunday with no sandwich option and the prices are comparable with what we are paying now.

We also looked at the Hazel Pear again but have discounted it due to the room being upstairs and although The Antrobus was great for a one off meeting the room again is far too small for us.

We do have a few more options to look at but we have to weigh everything up and whilst having a meal is something many of you enjoy the main priority is a space big enough to accommodate us and a safe secure car park for the cars. For now, we will be continuing with monthly meetings at the Cock at Budworth.

ELLEN ROAD VISIT

A big thanks to Martin and Lynne for organising such a great day out, starting at the Ellenroad Steam Museum with 8 TRs ,1 BMW, and 2 motorbikes (one being a Triumph), what a fantastic sight it was for everyone seeing the world’s largest working steam mill engine running for a short time, and going downstairs to stand in front of the boilers to feel the heat generated.

After a good look round the museum there was time for some lunch before everyone set off for a lovely run over the Pennines. Finishing at Hollingworth Lake.

CLASSIC AND SPORTS CAR NIGHT AT THE COACHMAN

Thanks to Ian Lewis for bringing this event to our attention. Despite it not really being BBQ weather that night it was nice to meet up with some other Red Rose members and to meet some fellow classic car owners.

Hopefully this is something that will be a regular event on the calendar.

AYSGARTH WEEKEND

The sun shone for what was a fantastic weekend away in Yorkshire. Eight Red Rose cars attended and we were treated to some stunning scenery and great roads.

We all made our way down on Friday and then a group met up for a meal at The George and Dragon.

After a hearty breakfast on Saturday, we headed off in the cars past Semer Water and through Yockenthwaite before stopping for a lunch that had been organised for us in the picturesque village of Malham where we created quite an impressive site all parked up round the green. We returned via Kettlwell and then all met up for a group meal at the Aysgarth Falls Hotel in the evening.

Sunday saw us heading for Tan Hill where we had a stop for a drink at the pub before we made our way to The Stainmore Railway Company at Kirkby Steven. Some of us had lunch in the railway carriages and most opted for the tour which was very informative.

Before we left there were some prizes to be handed out and no one was more shocked than Jonathan to win the car section of the quiz.

As you can see from his face in the photo I just couldn’t resist putting in!

Weekends like this are what owning a TR are all about and without the hard work put in by Ian and Mary Landen it wouldn’t be such a success so thank-you to them both for another wonderful weekend.

HE WASN’T EXPECTING THAT!

LAC COAST TO COAST RUN

A few Red Rose members attended this event along with family who were driving their Morris Minors.

After Basking in the sunshine at Dunsley Hall at the end of the LAC Coast to Coast run, they then took the opportunity to take on Rosedale Chimney Bank (max gradient 1 in 3) before routing through the Castle Howard estate. Scorching weekend in more ways than one!

CAPESTHORNE CLASSIC CAR SHOW

Congratulations to Peter and Dawn! Runners up with their TR6 in the 1970’s section.

Le Mans Classic 2023 – possible group event for 2023

We are looking to establish if there is any interest from the group members to attend Le Mans Classic in 2023, proposed dates are currently Thursday 29th June to Monday 3rd July and initially we need to know how many of you may be interested. To register your interest email Caroline at trredrose@hotmail.com before the 20th August.

Nothing is set in stone yet, when we have a better idea of the level of interest and potential numbers, we will look into accommodation options and travel arrangements.
