Red Rose Bulletin - March 2022

Red Rose Bulletin - March 2022

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and have survived the recent storms in tact!

Hopefully March will bring some much needed sunshine and with the clocks going forward at the end of the month Spring is finally on its way and it will soon be time to get out and about more in our cars.

February Round up

Our February meeting was a full house and there was a welcome return of some familiar faces at the Cock @ Budworth.

It was a busy meeting with a packed agenda so be sure to read the whole bulletin or you might miss out on some important information!

We had updates on TS2 , Gawsworth Hall Car Show, Tatton, The Coast To Coast Trip, and the proposed France holiday for 2022. We also had details on a trip we have planned for next year to LLanachindda Farm. Nothing like planning ahead! (more details on all of these events throughout the bulletin).

As well as our usual raffle and lots of food and laughs we had a special request from Bill and Anne Redrobe.

Their daughter Sharon is the chief executive of Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire and is one of 10 finalists in the tourism superstar awards run by the daily Mirror.

If you could all go on line at The Daily Mirror and vote for her it would be very much appreciated. The closing date is 22nd of March.

We have had an email to let us know that places are filling up fast for both The LAC Fellsman Regulation Run on 7th May and The Manchester to Blackpool Classic car run on 12th June so be sure to book your place to avoid disappointment.

In addition the Classic Car Show and Road Cruise being held by the Rotary Club of Congleton on Sunday 23rd July as part of its 75th celebrations is also getting booked up and we have been advised by the organisers that if you would like a place to contact them asap. rodgoodier@gmail.com

Dates for Your Diary

March Meeting

This months meeting clashes with the group leaders meeting in Gaydon. Jonathan, Richard and Bob will all be attending so John and Ann Thorp have very kindly offered to chair on Jonathan’s behalf. A big thank you for stepping in to both of them.

Jonathan has offered to appear via skype so you won’t miss him too much but his offer has been refused! I wonder why?

If anyone has anything specific they would like us to bring up at the group leaders meeting please email us and we will be sure to pass it on.

Drive it Day April 24th

We would welcome any suggestions as to a possible event/venue to visit for Drive It Day.

Our proposed venue of The Cai Dai Museum is already booked up and can’t accommodate us. We are now planning to go there for our Autumn Leaves run instead.

Please email us if you have any suggestions as Drive it Day is getting close.

Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show 2nd May (bank holiday)

I have been in touch with the owner of Gawsworth and advised that Red Rose will be attending with the Gazebo and he has confirmed we will be in our usual spot this year. Tickets have to be purchased in advance by ringing Gawsworth Hall. You can ring day or evening and tickets are £5 per person.

Tatton Park Classic Car Spectacular 4th- 5th June

Anyone wishing to attend Tatton this year should email Barnard Hayward bernard.hayward@outlook.com and we would ask that you only ask for a ticket if you intend to go.

Over the last few years the number of ticket requests has been high but then attendance has been poor hence the fact that each year we are allocated a smaller and smaller space in an increasingly less desirable location.

If you do attend this year though you are in for a treat! In honour of the Queens Platinum Jubilee the organisers have asked us to dress our stand on the Sunday with some patriotic flags and bunting.

We are also proposing to do an afternoon tea for Red Rose members in honour of the occasion.

TS2 Round Britain tour 23rd-25th June

The intention is to cover the full region to provide everyone an opportunity to join in. To achieve this we are proposing to start in the South on Thursday, the middle of the region on Friday and finishing in the North on Saturday. The proposed itinerary is as follows.

Proposed Itinerary

Thursday 23rd June

We will be collecting TS2 from North Wales group on the 23rd June and we are hoping to then have a venue / meeting point (possibly The Cock @ Budworth) where members can come and have the opportunity to take the car out on a short run in the local area.

Friday 24th June

It is hoped that we can arrange a run that would incorporate some of the original “1954 RAC British International Rally” which resulted in TR2’s sweeping the board with overall 1st, 2nd and 5th place finishes, winner in the Ladies class, stage winners at Blackpool and Hastings and top three places in sports car class up to 2.6lts. Not a bad result! The intention is to recreate some of the route through Lancashire with a stop off point and a second opportunity for members to take TS2 out for a short run.

If anyone can help us to track down one of original routes through Lancashire can you please get in touch.

Saturday 25th June

We hand TS2 over to Cumbria group and the plan is to do a run to the Lakeland Motor Museum where we will make hand TS2 over and you will have a chance to look around the museum. For those who have not been before it is well worth a visit!

Coast to Coast 7th-9th October

Bob Eccles is organising this trip and if you have put your name down can you please email Bob directly for details of how to book accommodation bob.eccles237@gmail.com

France trip (date TBC)

Ann and John Thorp are in the planning stages at the moment with this trip and if you would like more details then email them directly john.ann.thorp.tr@uwclub.net

Llanachindda Farm Trip 2023

All the places for this holiday are now booked but we do have a reserve list. If you would like to go on the reserve list or would like further information please email us trredrose@hotmail.co.uk
