TR Action Report London Group presented for issue 282
Greetings all, what has the London Group been up to in February and March? Both our Club nights the first in Richmond as usual the second at the Fox in Coulsdon, both were well attended. On my return from the Fox on a wet cold rainy winter's night, although I stopped at a set of traffic lights, unfortunately the chap behind me DIDN'T. Ironically though the damage he caused (£8.5K's worth), although heart breaking, probably helped save my TR, as the following Thursday an attempt was made to steal my TR. The Police believe a car transporter was used to ram my lock up garage door enough times to completely knock it off its hinges (it was actually floating fully open) the intention it's believed was to drag him out, on to the car transporter and then away. It was only the fact that the back end was clearly damaged and that I had a security post fitted, which amazingly even after that onslaught had held, that the Police believe the thieves decided to "Leave it".
So on to March, breathing a sigh of relief. 1st March off to Stoneleigh we merrily went (in the Volvo) meeting up there with many old and new friends, thanks to Howard Pryor for some space on his stand to sell off some of my now not so needed spares. 5th of March was our first Club night in Richmond and much of the talk was about the forth coming Rolling Road Shoot out at Enginuity. We were joined at this event by Jeff Roberts and members of the Windsor Forest group. In total 17 cars competed, ranging from Alan Jones in his TR3A to Paul Phillips in his growling Grinnall, it was great to see not just the cars but wives, sons, grandsons fathers, friends all coming to soak up the atmosphere , Bacon and sausage butties were presented at about 11.00 and all was done by 1.00pm First Prize for the most accurate prediction of BHP went to Steve Bamforth with his TR6 (it was a percentage decision) highest BHP was won by Paul Phillips, lowest BHP was presented to Jeff Roberts (TR4) and bizarrely who got their prediction most wrong, furthest away from reality?. Paul Phillips in his Growling Grinnall. He completely under estimated the power of Christine, so called because she only ever breaks down at traffic lights. The following Day Sunday 6 TRs set off from Ockham Bites heading for the Fountain Inn in Ashurst. Following a beautiful drive we arrived sat down and were almost immediately joined by ex- Group Leader Steve Walters and his wife Barbara, Lovely. Our last activity in March was our second group meeting the Alternative Club Night. This consisted of 2 talks regarding security, one from me about internal garage security following the events of February the other from Stan Ratcliffe of RBS Limited talking about Classic Car security and tracker systems, this was a very well attended event. Looming large now is our AGM and Drive it day both big dates in the diary. You can find us on the first Thursday of every month at the Rose of York in Richmond or on the third Thursday at an alternative venue (keep your eye on the web site) - both kick off at around 8.30pm now we are in BST! You will be made most welcome!
