TR Lincs October 2022 Newsletter

October 2022 Newsletter

Welcome back to the 1970s or it soon maybe ðŸ˜€.  At least our cars will feel at home as they were all around as daily drives in the 1970s!  Despite all this doom and gloom we seem to be fed every day at the moment at least the last few TR weeks have been good fun with our Derbyshire Tour and our early October Sunday run. Much more on these later.  There are a number of TR Lincs events coming up over the next few months which I will need an idea of how many of you would like to take part as there is quite a bit of organising to do.  These include our weekday lunch later this month, our November and December lunch meets, the annual dinner in February, the Yorkshire Dales Tour in May amongst others. At this stage I'm not asking for a firm commitment  but just a "probably would attend" response so I can gauge the viability and then come back to you later to firm up your commitment.  All the events I need a response for will be in the next section of this newsletter together with a link to one of my now famous forms to capture your responses please.

Our November 6th run will not take place next month but will be replaced by a lunchtime get together on Saturday 12th November, details nearer the time.

As we draw the 2022 season to a close then thoughts go to events for 2023.  I thank those of you who have been thinking about arranging a local Sunday run for us next year.  Well now is your chance to get started and let me know when you would like to do it.  I can give you dates to choose from, just let me know.

I'm also a Group Leaders meeting at Gaydon on the 6th of November where the only topic of discussion is the future strategy for the TR Register in a turbulent time for classic car clubs across the country.  I shall feedback when I return.

In the meantime just keep writing the "to do" list for your cars ready for the winter break - I've got mine from last year!!

Oh and don't forget to start to pull your pictures together for our photo competition to be judged at the annual dinner next year - more details later.

Cheers

September TR Lincs Events Review

TR Lincs Tour of Derbyshire  - September 20th to 22nd.

September saw 12 cars take part in the Tour of Derbyshire run.  We all gathered on day 1 at Thayers Ice Cream Parlour just off the A1 near Elkesley for coffee and bacon rolls before setting off on the trip over to Derbyshire.  Unfortunately the sat nav decided to take everyone in different directions but we all eventually ended up at the lunchtime stop at the Denby Pottery Village where we went on a tour of the factory where Denby produce their wares for sale all over the world.  I think we were all a little surprised at the limited amount of automation involved and how much of the process was still done by hand, even sticking the handles on cups.

Following the factory tour and the included tea and cake we set off to our accommodation for the next two nights, the excellent Horse and Jockey pub at Wessington.  After a great night, the following morning saw us set off for the short drive to the Great British Car Journey at Ambergate.  This collection of cars harks back to the cars your dad and mum may have driven in the day.  You even have the opportunity to drive some of the exhibits around a closed circuit within the site.  We even saw TS2 again where she lies for the remainder of the season.

Following the visit some of us ventured over to Chatsworth House to view the sculpture exhibits within the grounds.  These impressive and a little odd exhibits were quite a sight to see and proved a good conversation piece when we returned to the Horse and Jockey later that evening.

Following another good night our destination on the trip home was the Tramway Village at Crich.  What a delight this was.  We were permitted to take our cars into the village and park them in front of the Red Lion pub (perhaps they know us too well) and our cars actually created a lot of interest amongst the other visitors to the village.  I think we were all surprised at how engaging the whole thing was with tram rides, walks, exhibits, workshops and loads to see and do. After almost 3 hours there we all made our respective ways home, tired but very happy - and it stayed dry the whole 3 days to have roof off motoring everywhere we went.

TR Lincs October Run - Sunday 2nd October

Our early October run on the 2nd qualifies it for a mention in this Newsletter as it was almost September!  David and Jane McDonald ably assisted by Phil and Diane O'Hara arranged a great run for us starting off at the Garden Centre just outside Gainsborough following a scenic route through north Nottinghamshire along some really good roads ending up at the West Retford Hotel for a very welcome Sunday lunch.  We were blessed the entire run with warm sunshine which made for a very pleasant late season outing.

Advanced Notice - next two months. Full details in our events calendar.
