Kennet Valley Group hear about the develop project of the MGF

Kennet Valley Group attended their April Club Night, enjoying the usual Natter, Nosh & Noggin with fellow members & friends, then treated to a fascinating presentation by Allan Ashenden - former Senior Project Manager on the development of the MGF.

Allan delivered a very interesting presentation along with samples of the original typed project specification, original sales brochures and gear knobs, why was that significant, well the original knob was plastic moulded and hours of work and study had been done to with counterbalance weight to ensure a smooth gearchange on the rod linked system to the mid-engine gearbox.

Then the head designer decided to change the knob a a turn metal 'golf ball' shape, this was of course heavier and affected the smoothness of the gear change, just goes to show the fine lines in the design process. A BIG THANKS to Allan for his time and super presentation.
