Allan Jezzard Writes:-

East Saxons TR Action Report 330

Yippee, normality has almost returned. We’ve held two almost normal club nights recently. With the co-operation of our landlords, there were 30 members including some spouses at the Alma, Copford, and about 16 at the Farmhouse near Thaxted. Along with some existing members who we hadn’t seen since the dreaded lockdown had been imposed, we were delighted to meet up with a number of new members - Paul and Lynda Lucas, John and Sue Tasker, Stuart Wright, Danny Taylor-Murfet and welcome back Adam High who has been keeping a low profile - all very welcome.

Drive-it-Day had to be organised carefully so as not to infringe lockdown rules or cause the Register embarrassment. I advised those who were proposing to use their TRs, that it would be preferable if they could visit somewhere with a maximum of 5 other people, I didn’t think a “Group wide” visit could be justified. It worked. Myself and Veronica took a delightful drive through Essex and Cambridgeshire to Anglesey Abbey with Bob and Micheline in Bob’s 7v8. Others made their way to similar venues around and about our area. On a journey of around 80 odd miles, I was disappointed to see only one other classic, apart from a couple of our own members travelling in the opposite direction, a Hillman Imp the driver of which gave a cheery wave. It was not sporting a Drive-it-Day rally plate though.

On Sunday 9th May, Ian Freeman and myself arose with the lark and with some tucker and warm clothes made our way to the Carver Barracks at the old Debden Airfield for an East Herts organised sprint where we had volunteered to marshal. Ian and I usually sell ourselves (as it were) as a team but we were split up this time and officiated with strangers.

Coming up on 30th May, a few of us are attending another old airfield, this one at Stow Maries where, weather permitting, there is a Flying and Classic Car day. Further additions are being made to our Events List so keep in touch at www.eastsaxons.com and look out for emails.
