November 2023 Run and end of 2023 going into 2024 Report

November 2023 Run and end of 2023 going into 2024 Report

Martyn Bell writes:

By the time you read this article in the next issue of TR Action you should be thinking about taking your TR out of its winter hibernation and readying it for the months to come. We should all be looking forward to having fun in our TRs and meeting up with likeminded enthusiasts throughout our various 2024 events.

So where did 2023 go? Well, at the end of the year we had our AGM in November. This turned out to be a disappointing affair with only 6 members and 4 family members in attendance. The meeting only managed to re-elect our Treasurer leaving us without any other officer’s positions filled. Our outgoing Group Leader, Ian Landen, had decided that after 22 years of holding the position it was time to hang up his boots. I am sure that all our groups’ members offer their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Ian for his dedication and influence on our group during his years as GL. Moving forward, we now have a new vibrant management team in place of the outgoing GL. The team is headed by Rob Leonard.

Our last TR run of the year was the Sunday Remembrance Day Run organised by me and Jill. The weather leading up to the event was miserable and a severe overnight frost in the Vale of York the night before brought road gritters depositing doses of salt on many roads. Understandably members from these areas decided to keep their TRs tucked safely in their garages and turned out in modern vehicles. We still managed a turnout of 6 TRs, 1 MG and 3 modern cars. The run started close to Beverley on a lovely crisp, cool and sunny morning. Fortunately, the roads in the East Riding were frost and salt free. The run took us through many of the East Riding villages with the odd incursion into North Yorkshire via the Luttons, Weatherthorpe and Hunmanby before finally arriving at the Flamborough Lighthouse. We were joined at the Flamborough cafe by John and Chris Sherburn. John was unable to drive due to his foot being temporarily immobilised. Our route passed many war memorials, and we took a short stop at Sledmere to pay our respects at the Village and Waggoners Memorials. Having had a meal at the Headlands Restaurant and Café some of our group took the short walk to top of the 200ft cliff tops adjacent to the Lighthouse to peer down to the shore where there was a colony of seals enjoying the late sunshine by basking in the breakers hitting the shoreline. Mothers and pups lay on the beaches. The rain held off until it was time to go home so the hoods went up for our journey home before finally garaging the TR for its winter break.

Our final event of the year was the Christmas Meal in December at the Rose and Crown in Beverley. We have struggled in previous years to find a satisfactory venue and have been let down on too many occasions. This venue was a last-minute choice due to a cancellation and has proved to be a good success with a turnout of 32 members and friends enjoying a relaxed evening. Our thanks to Rob and Janice for organising this event.

Our first event of 2024 was a lunch and get together at The Triton Inn, Sledmere. Attended by 33 group members for a good post Christmas catchup and sets the scene for our social events in 2024.
