The weekend April 6th to 8th was the TRR Spring Ball in Derbyshire. Several of our couples headed off with their glad-rags for the Ball and associated tour around, but without their TRs.
11th & 12th April the Bells and ourselves headed off for the Aysgarth Recce. The weather was unbelievable, which explains why we were in the yellow one with the hood and the Bells in their Skoda. My fan-belt started to go on the A66 in slashing rain. There was very thick fog on the tops and mist in the valleys. Views? What views? Shear precipice? Well you can’t see it. Martyn’s saloon was showing 2C on the tops. For the return trip we chose A66, A1 and M62 with most of it in torrential rain. But now the routes are in the bag.
Saturday 14th put 350 miles on the 3A going to & from the Group Leaders’ meeting and bad news about the influence of the Data Protection Act changes. Anyone up at Blakey Ridge on Tuesday 17th April would have seen Jim Howie’s 4A being worked from 9 to 4pm on a publicity photo-shoot. Blakely Ridge was its frequently miserable usual self.
Sunday 22nd April was Drive-it Day. 14 cars from EasTRiding Group headed off to meet Cleveland & Wharfedale Groups at Fountains Abbey. From a start in perfect sunshine, our route took us through Thixendale and Leavening, Foston & Sutton-on-the-Forest. We crossed A64, A19, ECML Aldwark Toll Bridge (which many didn’t seem to know about) and A1(M). So there was a slight shower! It was beautifully sunny for the run back. There were 12 TRs, an Escort and a Jazz. This was also Rob Leonard’s first outing with us in his “new” red TR6. His 7 was along too, driven by his son. We were actually pleased to see the Escort as Steve Butter was driving on a run again.
