The first meeting of May fell on Tuesday 1st May, when we had Tim Laybourne show for the first time in a very long time. Tim, long ago, was a former Humber Bridge Group Leader and lives south of the River. He remembers many of the people who are still around. He was back with his wife Pauline and his 6 for the June meeting.
4th May many people were heading North for Malcolm & Alison Quill’s Northumberland weekend. Rob Leonard writes “Our May run took us to Northumberland for a second time, Malcolm & Alison Quill and Tim & Debbie Robinson organised the trip and runs over three days. Nine TR’s made their way to Seahouses for the bank holiday, but, unfortunately, we lost a TR4 on the way up. Jim & Imelda Howie still made it a little late in their other car. The weather was superb over the whole weekend, hoods were down the whole time to fully enjoy some great country and coastal runs. Out of the cars was as much fun with some very enjoyable and sociable meals and nights out. Let’s hope we can do it all again soon.” Thanks again to the Quills & Robinsons for organizing this event.
However, on the 4th May we were heading off in the opposite direction, for the ferry for Zeebrugge and the Triumph Club de France’s national event, this year in the Champagne region. On the way there we had a sunny few days touring Belgium, Vosges and Alsace, before witnessing a Legion d’Honneur being awarded in Nancy on the 73rd anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. After the TCF event we continued on to stay with French friends in Tours. The Myers came over a little later for the same event, then headed off to a German event the following weekend.
We were back in time to head off to the HSCC Cadwell Park Wolds Trophy meeting on 20th May with several other cars from the Group. A lovely sunny day and some close racing. That same weekend our former Regional Coordinator, Jim Johnstone, had a rear hub break on his TR6 whilst racing at Blyton Park. This resulted in his rolling the car and damaging his right hand. 2nd Jun was a very damp day for the BARC/VSCC Harewood hillclimb. The programme had several TRs also competing. JimJ was there with his hand and finger heavily bandaged but not able to compete this year.
