TR Action 342

TR Action 342

Paul Gibson writes: Due to attending the Goodwood Revival, I missed the September Sunday lunch at one of my favourite venues the Anchor Inn at Exebridge, arranged by Mark and Jo, the hungry attendees meeting first for coffee at the picturesque National Trust Knighshayes.

The October Castle Combe event marked the end of season for the Revington TR championship, Devon competitor John Blake reports.

“A well attended meeting with a total 18 drivers three from Devon and 16 cars, TR3A to V8 Wedges. This was my first season and was my twelfth event having already completed nine hill climbs and two sprints. We had rain overnight but on Saturday the weather Gods were kind and although sometimes overcast and threatening it was a mainly dry track. We had one practice run and three timed runs which resulted in some excellent times for some competitors, and although I’d walked the track with experienced competitors prior to the event trying to memorise brake and turn points it pretty much all went out the window when I was behind the wheel! I managed to end the day somewhere near the middle of my class and have been awarded the best newcomer award. I had made numerous changes to the car between events to try and improve performance, some of which were good, some not so. The downside to this was it was little like driving a new car at each event, far from ideal! Next season I intend to have a completed car from the start”.

The October Sunday Lunch kindly arranged by Derek and Janet was at the The Red Lion Broadclyst again an excellent meal and well attended.

Next a very special event, one I personally had been looking forward to, the open day at David Appleby Engineering. The interest was fantastic and David generously extended the numbers which topped over 30 including three Cornwall members. David talked us through his exact copies of the last works TR7 V8 rally cars built with new engines, gearboxes, axles, amongst nearly every part having to be reverse engineered, manufactured and fitted to the immaculate body shells. The cars are FIA papered and ready to race! Davids set up and workmanship impressed everyone, he even put on bacon butties! We invited Wayne along so expect an article in Action soon and a big thank you to Steve Williams for getting the ball rolling on this one.
