Social Scene Report - TRaction issue no. 341

Chris Thirtle writes: The August Club Night saw us at yet another new venue, The Bear, at Alderwasley. A central location, warm welcome, stunning views, good ales, nice food, and a large car park……could we have finally found a new home for our regular gatherings?

Club Night was followed by the Group hosting TS2 over the 17/18 August on its final stop of its UK tour. Two separate events were arranged. The first was a ‘drop in and drive’ event at the Highfields Farm tea rooms where members could just turn up and take the car for a spin; preferably not literally. On each run, a TR ‘photo car’ drove in convoy to share the moment and record the event. It proved an enjoyable and sociable afternoon and evening, and everyone agreed that TS2 had performed brilliantly. It certainly impressed those of us who were experiencing side screen motoring for the first time. The second day saw TS2 on a 90-mile tour with members swapping in and out of the driver’s seat between stops, while their own car was driven by a co-driver. The sun shone and an amazing 18 locations were visited and provided the perfect backdrop for posting more photographs of the iconic car in iconic locations on the TS2 WhatsApp group. Just 2 days later, TS2 was safely delivered to its new temporary home at The Great British Car Journey Museum, Ambergate, as part of the (mini) TR Register International Weekend Meet Up. Thank you to all the Derbyshire Dales members who volunteered to act as marshals to help the (mini) International run smoothly. Congratulations to Alan H and his TR3A for his win in the concours.

The last weeks of August and early September saw members heading out to enjoy events such as the Silverstone Classic and the Goodwood Revival, while others stayed closer to home and participated in local shows. Some, of course, had to take this end of season ‘get out there and drive’ spirit to the extreme. Dave B, Sarah S, Alan W, David S, Darren S and Howard J set off in 3 TR6’s for the European Weekend in Bastad, Sweden. Not satisfied with a drive to Sweden, however, they joined up with 25 other cars to complete a tour of Norway en route to Bastad. Congratulations to you all on completing such an epic trip. Your trans-continental exploits this year have inspired me to the point I’m seriously considering taking my ‘4 to the European meeting in 2023! Yes, I appreciate that would be a challenging 86-mile journey to Coventry but you only live once, right?

Breaking news as we go to print, the Group’s Annual Dinner will be at the Makeney Hall Hotel, Millford, on 28 Jan 2023; check the website for details, prices and how to book.
