Alan Ford writes:

Hi all, once again.

By the time you receive this edition of TR Action, spring will officially be about to be on us. Hopefully this will be a blessed relief from the cycle of storms which seem to have prevailed on and off through winter, although in the main the snow and deep frosts seem to have passed Derbyshire by. Best of luck to all with regard to the two storms – Dudley & Eunice – which are due to arrive just after this note has been posted.

Meanwhile the mild winter – in Derbyshire – seems to have given ample opportunity for our usual ‘tough as nuts’ enthusiasts to work on their TRs, not that cold weather is necessarily a deterrent to these hardy souls. LeeC is, no doubt, knocking out the dents of his ‘4’ after his exploits during the Hero’s LeJog rally, JimT is (still?) putting the finishing touches to his too-nice-to-drive, don’t-touch-if-you-dare ‘6’, and SteveB has pulled the chassis out from under his very nice ‘250’ and, after strengthening and reinforcing it, has had the chassis stripped, blasted and hot-zinc coated (a.k.a. thermal zinc sprayed) prior to having it powder coated. The hot zinc coating offers several benefits over the traditional hot dip galvanising process, not the least being that the chassis is not subject to the thermal stresses and consequent distortion risks associated with traditional galvanising. No doubt this process will be of interest to many others.

As an aside, SteveB has acquired another ‘toy’ to add to his garaged stable – on this occasion, a real toy, in the form of a 1960’s kiddies pedal car. There is no doubt that this will receive the same level of care and attention during its renovation as the rest of his real car collection.

Back to the subject of the mild winter, in between the storms and rain we have had a good few, albeit brief, periods of sunshine. Opportunities for those quick on the uptake to be out-and-about and exercise their TRs.

Finally, our schedule of meets includes our AGM on Wednesday 13th April which has been arranged to take place at The Crispin, Great Longstone, nr Bakewell. One of the subjects which we are sure will be debated at the AGM is the location of our monthly meets. We have tried a few locations and none seem to be best placed to suit the spread of our membership. One way of resolving this might be by having two locations for our Wednesday meets – one tending towards the south of our area, another to the north, with meetings taking place at each location on alternate months. Hence the choice of The Crispin, Great Longstone for our AGM venue. This is a location well known to other car clubs, and gives us all the chance to experience a more northerly location.

Another issue for consideration is the election of Officers for the Group. If you feel that you would like to make a contribution to the running, organisation and success of the Derbyshire Dales Group, please put your names forward. These are not beauty contests (otherwise we would be devoid of our current incumbents) – all comers are welcome.
