Chiltern TR group - News 2 June 2023

Dear Friends

Our next meeting is next Wednesday, 7th June at The Peacock in Henton, OX39 4AH. You should expect a few changes, hopefully only on this occasion. With the sad demise of landlord Martin Roberts, their license has now expired, meaning that for the time being they cannot sell alcohol until this is renewed. This will only be a temporary inconvenience. The message below from Jemma explains the situation and invites you, for now, to Bring Your Own (that could be fun) !

“This is just to let you know that we are currently applying for a new premises licence following the sad passing of the previous licence holder.

During the application we are unable to sell alcohol. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol for consumption in the bar and restaurant if you wish.

Please rest assured that all our other services are unaffected and we have an excellent choice of soft drinks and non-alcoholic drinks and the same delicious food menu.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind Regards,

Jemma”

We have received an invitation to join members of Galvon and Cotswold Vale at this charity event organised by our good friend John Walker. Some of you will remember him as he has been with us at Kop Hill. An older gentleman with a white 3A and irrepressible enthusiasm. Although he has no doubt many talents and skills, PCs and email are not among them. Hence the message is from his daughter, Nicola.

"Hi Peter

My Dad John Walker has asked me to email you about the event he is organising on the 4th of June. The idea is that your group would organise their own run which will end at Hartsop Farm OX7 3AS.

We will put on a bit of lunch at Hartsop Farm at the end of your run. (burgers, salad, cakes, drinks)

Fingers crossed for nice weather so everyone can relax and enjoy good company.

Ideally cars would need to arrive at Hartsop Farm from 12 onwards for lunch starting at about 12.30pm.

Dad is organising this to raise funds for Children with Cancer, a charity he has supported for a while. So, we are asking for a minimum donation of £5 per person.

We do need to know numbers at the latest by Sunday 21st of May. It is probably best if the names and numbers come to me as Dad isn't very active on his email so please feel free to use this email.

I hope people will support Dad and we look forward to seeing as many as possible on the 4th of June.

Thank you

Nicola Walker"

Nicola has setup a JustGiving page for anyone wishing to donate to this worthy cause at -

Venue : Hartsop Farm, Witney Road, Finstock, Oxon. OX7 3AS.

Lastly, a pal of Ian Smith’s has tickets for the Goodwood Revival Meeting (8th – 10th September) that he is now unable to use. Contact Ian if you are interested. Ian says -

“Just been asked by a friend who is unable to go to the revival, business commitment, who has 2 sets of w/e tickets and paddock passes would I know of anyone who would be interested. Price is £430 could you send out an email to all if anyone is interested.

Many thanks

Ian”

That’s all for now. See you on Wednesday and don’t forget to BYO !!
