Chiltern TR Group - News 10 May 2023

Dear Friends

(My apologies for such a long message)

May is going to be a busy TR time, starting with the Classic Meeting at Prescott this coming Sunday 14th. A good many of you will be joining us to enjoy a great drive across the Cotswolds to the event. Herewith a message from Aidan with his usual detailed agenda for the day. We are grateful for his time and effort.

Dear Chiltern TR colleagues,

With a busy month of TR activities ahead of us, please note the following details of our visit to the Prescott Hill Climb, our May mid-monthly evening get together and the “Triumph Centenary” Picnic:

Sunday 14th May – Classics on the Hill at Prescott:

We will again be visiting the Classics on the Hill event at the Prescott Hill Climb (www.prescotthillclimb.co.uk), in what I feel with the scenic drive and the superb venue, is one of the best days out of the year for the Group.

There are currently 8 Chiltern Group cars already booked in and should you wish to join us, please book online at www.classicsatprescott.com, where the cost is only £20.00 per car and this is a charity fund raising event organised by the Winchcombe Rotary Club. Please select the “Static Display” option – you’ll see the photo of our TRs from last year’s event - and list our car club as “TR Register – Chiltern Group”, where this will ensure that you will be allocated reserved parking alongside those of us who have already booked.

In order that we get there in time for the notable breakfast in the Bugatti Owners Clubhouse on site and where we will be following the same scenic route that we took to Toddington railway station on Drive it Day, the timings of our departure and meeting points are as follows

  • a) 8:30am at Thame Esso Garage Services (departing from there at 8:35am).
  • b) *8:45am at Oakley (Postcode HP18 9QF) in layby at junction of Bicester Road and Brill Road.
  • c) *9:30am at the Shell garage at the roundabout junction of the A3400 & A361, approx 1 mile north east of Chipping Norton. Please wait in the entrance to the garage (not the exit).

*As with our Drive it Day outing, we will not be able to stop at these two locations – please simply join us as we drive by.

Best regards

Aidan

The May mid-month meeting will at The Seven Stars on the evening of Wednesday 17th. Adian has made all the arrangements on our behalf.

Wednesday 17th May – The Seven Stars at Dinton (Postcode HP17 8UL):

Our first evening mid-monthly of the year will be held at The Seven Stars at Dinton (www.sevenstarsdinton.com), which is located just off the A418 Thame to Aylesbury road. This is a successful community owned pub; the food is very good (including I have to confirm an exceptional fruit crumble and custard dessert!) and there is a selection of quality local beers.

There is a car park there and we have been advised that if we get there early (i.e. 5:45pm-6:00pm), there should be space enough for us. Alternatively, there is parking in the quiet road outside.

In terms of directions, when travelling along the A418 from Thame toward Aylesbury, please take the first Dinton signposted right hand turn adjacent to the speed camera, after you have passed the (currently closed) Bottle & Glass pub at Gibraltar.

Alternatively, if travelling along the A418 toward Thame from the Aylesbury direction, please take the second Dinton signposted left hand turn, again adjacent to the speed camera.

Where I have already made an outline group booking, please would you let me know if you are able to join us, either by e-mail to aidan.coles@btinternet.com, or by text to 07836-530780, so that I can then confirm the exact numbers to The Seven Stars.

Best regards

Aidan

And finally, the picnic at the Walton Hall Hotels on Sunday 21st and is open to all and is completely free of charge.

Sunday 21st May – The “Triumph Centenary” Picnic at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel at Wellesbourne Warwickshire (Postcode CV35 9HG).

This is a relaxed “open invitation” event that is being organised by the Pre-1940 Triumph Motor Club to celebrate the 100th year of Triumph car production, it’s a free event and there is no need to pre-book. You just need to bring a picnic, a mug, a tea bag and a chair and be prepared to enjoy Richard’s superb home baked cakes (no pressure Richard!).

Refreshments will also be on sale on the day, in addition to there being a hog roast.

A number of us will be going and should you wish to join us, where we will be taking a cross country route to Banbury and then onward past Kineton to Wellesbourne, I would suggest the following timings and meeting points:

  • a) 9:30am at Thame Esso Garage Services (departing from there at 9:35am).
  • b) 9:45am at Oakley (Postcode HP18 9QF) in layby at junction of Bicester Road and Brill Road.
  • c) 10:00am at The Bull Inn at Launton.
  • d) *10:15am at Aynho.
  • e) *10:20am at the Pickled Ploughman at Adderbury (just before the junction of the B4100 & A4260 Banbury Road).
  • f) 11:00am arrive at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel at Wellesbourne.

*Again and as with our Drive it Day outing, we will not be able to stop at these two locations - please simply join us as we drive by.

I look forward to seeing you at the above.

Best regards

Aidan
