Richard Crawley
Is it A or J type? Does it disengage when you select neutral? If not the clutch may be sticking, this can happen initially if the unit’s been rebuilt; if it’s stuck on, don’t try & reverse the car or you will do some serious damage. If it disengages OK with neutral selected, it could be one of the gearbox detent switches is not correctly adjusted or faulty & is permanently switched when warm; could be the actuating valve is clogged or out of adjustment. Guest ron
Matty Disconnect the live wire from the solenoid, run a new live via a switch to the solenoid [out the door and under the car if you have to, it's only for a test] test drive the car using the new power source, this will confirm whether it's the inhibitor switches or something more serious and as Richard posted DON'T select reverse with the OD engaged! marvmul
On the J type O/D, the oil is passing freely through the valve that is operated by the solenoid when the O/D is disengaged and the oil circuit has little or no pressure. If this valve, or the oilway to and from this valve is blocked by debris, the oil circuit remains pressurised, even when the solenoid is disengaged, and the pistons and clutch stay in the O/D engaged position.
