Steve_Dyne
Hi all, Last Sunday, a few miles from home after about 80 trouble-free ones in the Derbyshire peaks (Snake Pass etc) and without any real warning, we lost all our sparks and cruised to a halt at the roadside. Investigation (substitution) proved the coil had completely given up the ghost. Never experienced coil failure before, but I must admit I didn't expect such a catastrophic event. The coil was bought last year before our trip to Italy and in the best tradition the good 'un was taken off and put in the boot and the new one put on the car. This coil has done about 3000 miles - although to be fair they were mainly Autobahn/Autostrada bashes in sweltering summer heat. Anyway, I need a new one. Don't fancy Intermotor again, and am not having a lot of joy finding out what's suitable as a replacement (Lucas DLB105?). Any recommendations? Definitely happy to pay for quality this time! The car is a '59 3A, 2138cc, HS6s, otherwise pretty standard. Thanks for any thoughts Steve
Ade-TR4
Hi a DLB-105 gold coil should be fine. It gives a fatter/ higher voltage spark so you can re-gap the plugs to 35-40 thou. Bear in mind that the increased spark will wear out the points a bit quicker. Not a major issue though. If you want someting a bit more original looking, a silver HA12 type coil and decal are available from moss. cheers adey
