Xmas Stages Isle of Man

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am a new member and I have purchased a Tr7 V8 rally car if any one can shed any light on its history I would be very greatfull. See photo.

I have been told that it was a works Leyland ST built "customers Spec" car.

As for the car the preformance is breath taking for a 1977 car we even beat a couple of WRC escorts in a few stages.

I was that impressed I have just gone out and purchased a TR8 road car.

Regards John

Hi John,

Welcome to the TR Forum . . .

A few more clues about your car would be really helpful ! There is a little knowledge around about the numerous cars with 'works' connections, but the more detail about your car the better.

Glad you're enjoying it, there's nothing like leaving a Porker Carrera for dead !!

Cheers,

Alec

The engine is meant to have 260BHP revs straight to 8000, 5 speed close ratio box, works rear axle with large strengthening plate LSD, Disc brakes front and rear, hydraulic handbrake (been removed) fuel tank is a sealed 6 gallon unit in spare wheel well, I been told that this is the race type tank, you can see where the tank has been removed from the rear bulkhead, s.d cage with door bars. scruitining stickers going back to 1979. Engine number doesn’t match any rover v8 on the list I have been told that works engine numbers consisted of the engine builders initials date and number can anyone confirm this, I have spoke to a chap who served his time at Leyland ST and was on the service crew for the works cars 1976 to 1987 TR 7 and 6R4's wheels Aleycats 8 x 13 front 9x13 rear 4 x 8 x 15" Minilites. the wiring is a bit of a mess with all of the fues boxes that were mounted on the dash someone has removed them and there is wires every were. Ant info would be gladly recieved.

Regards John
