How to Identify a 5-speed?

Hi, Guys - I know hardly anything about TR7s, but I found a pair of them in a local junkyard last weekend. They are fairly complete, and both still have their engine and transmission. I know the 5-speed transmission was an option, and I'm thinking I might be able to fit one to an MGB with the Rover V8 engine. But how do you tell if the TR7 transmission is a 5-speed? Both of these cars are missing the shifter and shift knob, and they are sitting too low to have a look underneath. Is there any way, short of asking the yard man to put the car on a lift? Thanks for any hints. -G.

The 4 speed & 5 speed also used different axles, and different rear brakes. The 5 speed has bigger rears, so measurting the drum diameter should be a good indicator of the gearbox.

i don't have the exact details of sizes, but that shouldn't be hard to find.

Hope that helps....
