Aldy
In carrying out an oil change using the original canister and oil filter the long bolt would not align with the housing eventually starting to bite at an angle. On removing the housing the uppermost part of the housing thread shows damage which appears to be preventing the bolt from fastening freely resulting in tightening up. Has anyone experienced this and is it possible to carry out a helical repair. Decided to go for a spin on oil conversion when this is sorted. Would appreciate your thoughts
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Get the head of the filter housing off the engine and on the bench Try to fit the bolt . If you can get it in and started then able to screw in by light use of a spanner you are onto a winner. If the thread is only damaged on the first thread or so then you may be able to restore it with a tap or a riffler file. Gentle easing may clean up the threads. Alternative may be to remove those first couple of threads that are damaged with a drill (not easy to hold the drill square to the thread though) After that you are in for a simple helicoil repair. This all hinges on how much of the thread has been crossed or damaged.
Aldy
Thank you Peter It was much easier fitting the bolt to the housing when doing this on the bench. As this is a very long thread the damage to the uppermost threads don't appear to compromiser the fit. Will hopefully fit as one provided there is space.
