jhk
Hi Forumers, Following a leaking diaphragm... I am about to re attach the AC UE pump to the block of my TR4A. I have a selection of gaskets to use. Picture attached. I have seen somewhere on this forum a seal arrangement that had gasket type A (in the attached picture) against the pump face, and type C / E against the block. I can see the merit of type A to keep parts inside the pump should they come apart (maybe more likely with new pumps where shaft is pressed into pump body... forgive me I cannot recalled who raised this possible failure mode... think it was Marco who made a steel spacer to contain failed parts....). Type C/E would look to have more material around the lower area... so maybe more effective at maintaining a seal. But gasket type A would hinder splash lubrication of the pump pivot mechanism, splash lubrication intuitively seems desirable to me. Obviously I have too much time my hands to be pondering this subject in such detail. The old seal in the top left of picture was not leaking (and had no sealant around it...) Curious as to the best practice? Why have this oil gasket rubber? Txs for any enlightenment...
