NigelN
If your front brakes jam on solid, the chances are it's a faulty servo. The symptoms are that when you set off, the brakes are free, but after repeated applications in traffic, they jam. Once the car has sat at rest for 20-30 minutes, they free off again. You can't fit the servo straight from the box, you have to adjust the servo pushrod so that there is a 10-16 thou gap between the rod tip and the face of the mounting flange for the master cylinder. The procedure is; Mount the servo on the car Connect the vacuum hose Start the engine and run it for a short while Switch off and disconnect the vacuum hose Coat the pushrod threads with Loctite and set the gap Leave 24 hours to harden This procedure is to be found in the section of the Haynes manual that deals with rebuilding a servo with a repair kit. There's no mention of it at all in the official British Leyland repair Manual!
