jgardiner
Greetings. After many years of ignoring my TR8 I have decided to have it repainted. Most shops around here won't work on anything that isn't paid for by insurance, but I did find a shop that does good work and would like to respray the car, but they have run into an issue with the factory TPA paint. They use Valspar auto paint and are struggling to find a primer that works with the very flexible factory paint. Even if they strip it back to metal there would still be an issue where the old paint meets the new. Can anyone recommend a good primer and paint combo that will work over the original paint? Thanks. Hamish
If you don’t have success here perhaps try classic Rolls Royce forums/information as I believe they used TPA. The 1970’s Shadows and Bentley “T” s i think 1st generation 2pack may do it - but not many like or will use it now. failing that ask the Valspar rep what barrier coat they recommend. It’s what they are there for advice in the tech jobs. H Edited February 14, 2021 by Hamish
