Guest AndyTR250
I sure some of you have done this before. While I have experience installing both vinyl and leather seat covers on MGB seats I have not done so on a Triumph, specifically my TR250. I have new seat covers I bought from Moss (USA) and the bit that puzzles me slightly is how to attach the seat bottom cover so that the front of the pleated area sets well in to the foam base while maintaining the humped contour of the front of the seat. On the original covers I see that there is a muslin strip of fabric sown across little loops of fabric, corresponding to each longitudinal pleat, that are located on a lateral seam at a point about 1/3 from the front. This strip of fabric was glued between the flat base foam and the contoured "U" shaped foam. This kept the bottom seating surface shape when the sides are pulled taught on the frame. The new seat covers also have these little loops in the right location, but no strip of fabric for a hold down attachment. Do seat covers from UK suppliers have this? My wife has volunteered to sow a piece of fabric across the loops, but I wonder if there is a better method. PS I have Roger Williams book but he omits any mention of this part..... Tom Fremont
The leather kit I got from TRf 6 years ago handled this issue without requiring any measures on my part. If the Moss kit doesn't, perhaps it's not the same as others supply. The part I wasn't happy with was the top of the seat back where the stuffing wasn't sufficient to produce the desired fullness - so it's off to the upholsterer's for makeover The best ones I've seen were done entirely by upholstery specialists, like Larry Hearn in PA, whose handiwork I acquired in another car.
