steve26
Hi I am considering replacing the steel wheels on my TR3 with wires. The wheels are currently fitted with 155 SR15 tyres, which I am told would be compatible with 4.5 x 15 wires. As spacers are now available to avoid cutting down the wheel studs, can anyone tell me, if these wheels would then fill the arch better i.e. appear wider than the steel wheels? My other alternative is to buy 5.5 Wheels, plus new tyres. Then offer my current wheels and tyres for sale.
steve26
Another thought occurred to me, with original cam and peg steering, would wider 5.5 wheels add much to the heavy steering? Regards Steve
james christie
I think you will find that many of us oldies have been through the wide tyre phase and many of us with experience have changed back to 155 or 165 tyres. Certainly if you go wider, the steering will be heavier especially when parking. The womenfolk in my family used to complain bitterly! As for the wire wheel bit it is a question of personal taste - I fitted a set some 20 years ago, I don't regret it but they are a pain to maintain, very heavy unsprung weight and if I had the opportunity I'd change to something less labour intensive to look after.
